Twitter Glitches As Links, Images Fail To Load
San Francisco Links stopped working, some users couldn’t log in, and images stopped loading for others on Twitter for over an hour on Monday due to various issues.
As Elon Musk has drastically reduced Twitter’s workforce, the company has seen an increase in instability and bugs in recent months. The company made an internal adjustment that had unexpected results.
On Monday, users encountered an error when trying to access Twitter’s help page, which read: “Your current API plan does not include access to this endpoint,” and provided a broken link to Twitter’s software developer page.
On Monday, Musk tweeted, “This platform is so brittle” (sigh). Soon be corrected.
Around 10 a.m. Pacific time on Monday, the company tweeted that the problem had been fixed Twitter.
Twitter is currently experiencing international slowdowns.
Downdetector reports that users first noticed the problems around noon Eastern Time. According to NetBlocks, a company that monitors internet access, “Twitter is currently experiencing international slowdowns and outages affecting many users,” which also affects the quality of users’ ability to upload and view images and videos on the platform. Images posted by other users were hidden from some users.
Since Musk fired most people who worked to keep Twitter running, engineers and experts have warned that Twitter is at an increased risk of fraying. There was a problem that prevented people from sending tweets last month.
Since well over two-thirds of the San Francisco Twitter’s pre-Musk core services engineers have left, former Twitter engineers described to The Associated Press in November why they expect a rough road for Twitter’s more than 230 million users.
Engineers have warned that if Musk makes significant changes to Twitter without much off-platform testing, the platform could become very rough around the edges but not necessarily fail shortly.
