Trump Trolls Trudeau Over Being “Governor of the Great State of Canada”
President-elect Trump took another shot at the Canadian prime minister on his Truth Social account just after midnight on Tuesday, claiming “it was a pleasure” to meet with “Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada.”
“It was a pleasure to have dinner the other night with Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada,” he wrote. “I look forward to seeing the Governor again soon so that we may continue our in depth talks on Tariffs and Trade, the results of which will be truly spectacular for all!”
“We will, of course, as we did eight years ago, respond to unfair tariffs in a number of ways, and we’re still looking at the right ways to respond,” Trudeau said. In 2018, my strategy helped convince Trump to remove tariffs because Canada carefully targeted the president’s party and colleagues.
Donald Trump has often mocked Justin, calling him weak and accusing him of being “very liberal” and “not so great,” ridiculing his policies and leadership.
For example, their tense interactions at G7 meetings highlighted their clashing personalities and politics. Trump has openly questioned Trudeau’s decisions on trade and policy, often turning disagreements into personal digs.
Social media amplified these moments, with Trump supporters joining in to troll the Canadian leader, who has kept his responses measured for the most part, but the feud remains a constant sore spot in U.S.-Canada relations.
The two have often clashed, including sharp criticisms during Trump’s office. For many, this feels less about politics and more about sparking headlines.
