Former President Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against New York Attorney General Letitia James. On Wednesday night, Trump announced the lawsuit on the Truth Social site.
He stated that he filed the lawsuit against James in Florida and that “New York State is one of the most crime-ridden locations on the planet.”
Trump claimed that James does little to protect New York from crime and criminals. According to the lawsuit, she has used her position as AG “to undertake a relentless, malicious, public, and unapologetic assault against President Trump, a Palm Beach County, Florida resident, with the explicit objective of destroying him personally, financially, and politically.”
Donald Trump issued the following statement:
“Today, I filed a case in Florida State Circuit Court against Letitia “Peekaboo” James, the dishonest Attorney General of New York State. New York State is one of the most crime-ridden locations, with murders, robberies, drug deals, and other forms of crime setting weekly records.
While James does nothing to defend New York from these violent crimes and criminals, she attacks excellent and upstanding enterprises that have done nothing wrong, such as the extremely successful, job-creating Trump Organization I have diligently developed over many years.
Crooked and political, James now believes it is the State of New York’s business to go after my revocable trust and delve into my private estate plan, only to recklessly hurt me, my family, my businesses, and my tens of millions of followers.
This would not be happening if I had not been elected President of the United States and was currently polling well ahead of Democrats and Republicans. We must stand up for our country, fight illegal persecution, and restore America’s greatness!”
Trump and the Trump Organization are named as defendants in a lawsuit filed by James, who claims that Trump and the Trump Organization overstated his net worth by billions of dollars and misled banks and others about the value of various assets for years.
The former president’s claim against James comes while his company, the Trump Organization, is on trial for felony tax fraud, accused of a 15-year plot by his most trusted lieutenant to evade paying taxes on those fringe benefits.
The tax fraud case is the only criminal trial to result from the Manhattan district attorney’s three-year investigation of the former president, and it is one of three open proceedings in New York courts involving Trump or the corporation.
James’ publicist made the following statement:
“Multiple judges have disregarded Donald Trump’s illegitimate attempts to avoid justice, and no amount of lawsuits will prevent us from pursuing this scam.
We filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump because he committed massive financial fraud. That truth hasn’t changed, and neither will our determination to ensure that no one, no matter how powerful or political, is above the law.”
The Trump Organization may face a $1 million punishment and problems obtaining future loans and deals if convicted. Some partners and government organizations may want to end their relationship with the corporation.
It might also jeopardize its ability to do business with the United States Secret Service, which occasionally pays the company for housing and services while protecting Trump as a former president.
