Conservatives slammedTrudeau for ‘breaking Canada’s immigration system

Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre has attacked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for ‘breaking Canada’s immigration system’ by allowing thousands of foreign students to enter the country.

Pierre Poilievre told reporters that a Globe and Mail article today revealed that Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada classified more than 10,000 foreign student acceptance letters from Canadian schools and institutions as potentially fake.

He claimed that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his former immigration minister, Sean Fraser, caused the crisis by issuing a million student visas without considering the consequences for the country.

“On top of that, they ignored the widespread fraud and abuse in the International Student Program. Now, Trudeau’s new Immigration Minister, Marc Miller, has written to the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants, requesting that they resolve the issue that his administration created,” he said.

Poilievre stated, “This is yet another admission of failure by the NDP-Liberal administration on immigration. Last month, Trudeau finally confessed that his radical, uncontrolled NDP-Liberal immigration policies contributed to joblessness, housing, and healthcare issues.

Even Minister Miller admitted that their reckless practices led to the system becoming “out of control” after nine years.

The NDP-Liberal administration now says they intentionally disrupted the system to address pandemic employment shortages. But this is yet another falsehood.

The International Students Program has never been a labor stream. Despite this, the number of persons entering Canada through this program has increased by 211% since Trudeau became Prime Minister.

Now that the NDP-Liberal government is desperately trying to reclaim control of this program, an alarming number of temporary foreign students are claiming refugee status.

Nearly 14,000 international students have filed asylum requests this year, up from 1,810 in 2018. This figure is only likely to rise.”

Canadians have no faith that Justin Trudeau will be able to resolve the immigration crisis he has created. He promised to reduce the number of temporary immigrants to 5% of the population, but the figure has subsequently climbed to 7.3%.

Poilievre stated that Canadians need a government to end International Student Program fraud.  They said they could only repair what the NDP-Liberals had broken and restore an immigration system that worked for all Canadians.
