Tom Hanks Warns Fans About AI-Generated Ads Misusing His Likeness

Tom Hanks warned followers against AI-generated commercials using his image to promote “wonder drugs.”

“There are multiple ads over the internet falsely using my name, likeness, and voice promoting miracle cures and wonder drugs,” the actor said. “These ads have been created without my consent, fraudulently and through AI.”

Tom Hanks affirmed that he had “nothing to do with these posts, the products and treatments, or the spokespeople promoting these cures.” I have type 2 diabetes and only consult with my board-certified doctor about my treatment.

The Forrest Gump star urged fans to avoid being duped and losing their hard-earned money.

Tom Hanks’ Ongoing Battle with Misuse of His Likeness

This is not the first time someone has utilised Tom Hanks’ image to promote a product. In October 2023, he uploaded an Instagram screenshot of a fake ad with the message “BEWARE!!” There’s a video out there that promotes a dental plan and features an AI version of me. “I had nothing to do with it.”

Tom Hanks isn’t the only star to be influenced by AI-generated advertisements. Last year, a bogus Luke Combs ad touting “miracle” weight loss gummies spread over social media.

“I was at my lowest point, and then God blessed me with miracle root gummies.” “My good friend Lainey Wilson recommended them to me,” said an AI-generated voice that resembles Combs.

AI has affected notable figures such as Piers Morgan, Nigella Lawson, and Oprah Winfrey. Earlier this year, advertisements for a manifestation course called “Genie Script,” which claimed to be a lost Hebrew Bible scripture of only 20 words that could bring you success, featured actual film layered with phoney speech.

“I want to give you a 20-word script…” Consider it like installing a new operating system in your mind that is engineered to make you wealthy,” the phoney Winfrey says in an advertisement.

Scarlett Johannson sued Lisa AI last year, alleging that her picture and voice were used to promote the company’s deepfake generation capabilities. Earlier this year, the actress filed a lawsuit against Sam Altman for allegedly utilising her voice in OpenAI’s ChatGPT 4o prototype. Open AI, which denies that the Sky voice is a Johansson deepfake, has taken Sky down.
