NEW YORK — TikTok announced Tuesday that it had taken steps to prevent a cyberattack on high-profile accounts, including one belonging to CNN.
“Our security team was recently alerted to malicious actors targeting CNN’s TikTok account,” TikTok spokesperson Jason Grosse wrote in a prepared statement. TikTok has been working with CNN to re-establish access to the account and implement “enhanced security measures” to protect it, Grosse added.

“We are dedicated to maintaining the integrity of the platform and will continue to monitor for any further inauthentic activity,” Grosse stated.
CNN did not respond quickly to a request for comment.

The social media business stated that the attack occurred using the platform’s direct messaging tool but did not provide any other information about the nature of the hack. Grosse stated that TikTok is still investigating the “potential exploit” and working with affected account owners to restore access. Grosse did not disclose the number of accounts attacked but stated that “a very small number of accounts were compromised.”

TikTok would not name the other affected accounts to save to say that the account of socialite and reality TV star Paris Hilton was targeted but not compromised.
