Charlie Woods recovered from a bogey-double bogey start at Eagle Trace Golf Club to finish with a 1-under 71 and win the medalist spot from his qualifier, one of four players to accomplish so.
“I didn’t play well on the first two holes, but I improved significantly in the last 16. I simply reminded myself not to make any more bogeys or doubles, and I took advantage of some good birdie opportunities when they arose,” Woods said.
Tiger Woods was 14 when he qualified for his first U.S. Junior and advanced to the semifinals. Woods won his first U.S. Junior Amateur at Bay Hill a year later, finishing in 19 holes. Woods is the only player to have won the United States Junior Championship three times in a row.

Players must be under 19 by the end of the championship.
The U.S. Junior Amateur takes place from July 22 to 28 at Oakland Hills in Detroit’s suburbs. Woods will be one of 264 players competing in 36 holes of stroke play on the North and South courses at Oakland Hills to determine which 64 will advance to match play.
Tiger Woods has won nine USGA championships, including three consecutive U.S. Junior Amateurs, three straight U.S. Amateurs, and three U.S. Open crowns.
