Tesla recalls over 1.8 million vehicles due to a hood issue that may increase the crash risk.

Founded by billionaire Elon Musk, recalls selecting 2021-2024 Model 3, Model S, Model X, and 2020-2024 Model Y vehicles because the hood latch assembly may fail to detect an unlatched hood when it is opened.

When the vehicle is in motion, the unlatched hood can fully open, blocking the driver’s view and increasing the risk of a collision. The company is unaware of any crashes, injuries, or deaths due to the problem.

The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

On March 25, Tesla began investigating customer complaints concerning the issue with Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in China. By mid-April, the carmaker had identified the problem affecting vehicles in China as a latch switch deformation.

Tesla has continued to investigate the issue and discovered that the incidence rates were higher in China than in Europe and North America, but the cause of this differential is unknown.

They stated that as of July 20, it had discovered three warranty claims or field reports for U.S. vehicles that were or could be related to the hood issue.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated that Tesla has issued a free software update to remedy the issue.

Owner notification letters are planned to be mailed on September 22.

Last month, they recalled its futuristic new Cybertruck pickup for the fourth time in the United States since it went on sale on November 30 to address issues with missing trim pieces and failing front windscreen wipers.
