Upon Request, Telegram Will Share Police Phone Numbers and User IP Addresses.

(VOR News) – One month after French officials accused him of supporting drug trafficking and child abuse on his platform, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov announced on Monday that the widely used messaging app has installed several safeguards to eradicate criminal content.

The announcement came one month after the French authorities published their accusations. Elimination of harmful content from the website is one of the procedures that are being taken.

Following the receipt of legitimate legal requests, the company has changed its position and will now provide law enforcement organisations with the IP addresses and phone numbers of Telegram users.

The company’s frequently asked questions page was stated.

“All Telegram chats and group chats are private among their participants,” prior to Durov’s detention when the page was established. Any requests that are associated with them are not processed by us.

According to a report that was published by Bloomberg, Durov stated in a Telegram discussion that a group of moderators had focused their efforts over the past several weeks on removing anything that was deemed to be illegal or harmful. In addition, Telegram altered the search mechanism of the platform in order to reduce the likelihood of content of this nature being displayed.

The statement made by Durov was that “these measures should deter criminals.” It is not the intention of Telegram Search to market illegal goods; rather, it is designed to assist users in identifying friends and discovering news.

When Durov, a citizen of France, returned from a holiday in Azerbaijan on August 28, he was taken into custody during his return.

His private Telegram jet stopped at an airport near Paris.

He was charged with enabling the transmission of material relating to child sexual abuse, organised fraud, and coordination with criminals to perpetrate illegal acts. These charges were brought against him by French prosecutors.

Additional allegations were included in the news statement made by the prosecution, which stated that Telegram had failed to provide authorities with information regarding illegal behaviour that was taking place on the network.

In the beginning, the Iranian and Russian governments did not allow the application to be used since it refused to provide information to the authorities. However, Russia eventually removed the ban that had been placed on the application.

Immediately following the arrest of Durov, Telegram made the assertion that its creator did not own any secrets and regarded it as “absurd” to hold the firm or its owner accountable for users who violated the restrictions of the platform. Durov said “The French Telegram authorities could contact me for assistance.”

This included a dedicated email address that was designed to receive requests from law enforcement authorities located in Europe. It was acknowledged by him that the website is going through “growing pains” as a result of its rapid expansion, which has resulted in more than 950 million customers already.

A number of modifications to the Telegram network have been implemented in the weeks that have followed Durov’s detention. One of these modifications is a new policy that regulates the requests of law enforcement.

According to Durov, the company restricted the amount of media that could be uploaded to the Telegraph, which is the company’s blogging platform. He claimed that the platform “appears to have been utilised by anonymous entities.”
