Adobe has officially launched a mobile version of Photoshop, starting with iPhone users. An Android version is expected to follow later this year. The new iPhone Photoshop app offers free and paid features and is designed for editing on the go.
It includes tools similar to the desktop version, like layering and masking, but tailored for mobile screens. The app also syncs with Photoshop on the web for users with a subscription.
Adobe has introduced a $7.99/month subscription for access to premium features on the app and Photoshop on the web. Existing Photoshop subscribers automatically gain access to the mobile version.
To appeal to younger, phone-savvy creators, Adobe has built the app “from the ground up” to suit the needs of modern users. It competes with popular apps like Snapseed, Picsart, and Canva while providing compatibility with desktop, web, and iPad versions of Photoshop.
App Features for Free Users
Users can combine and edit images using layers, masks, and selections. They can also use the “Tap Select” feature to remove or replace parts of an image and tools like the “Spot Healing Brush.”
Generative AI features powered by Adobe Firefly, such as “Generative Fill” and “Generative Expand,” are also available. Additionally, free users can access thousands of Adobe Stock assets and integrate with Adobe Express, Fresco, and Lightroom.
Adobe App Features for Paid Users
Subscribers can seamlessly switch between the mobile app and Photoshop on the web for more advanced editing. Premium tools include “Object Select” for precise selections, “Magic Wand” for isolating objects, and “Content-Aware Fill” to remove or replace parts of a photo.
Subscribers also gain access to over 20,000 fonts and advanced AI tools like “Generate Similar” and “Reference Image.” Other features include a “Clone Stamp” to hide objects, advanced blend modes, and tools to adjust lighting and transparency.
During development, Adobe gathered feedback from creators who used the app for various projects, such as album covers, digital art, podcast visuals, and memes.
According to Shambhavi Kadam, senior director of product management at Adobe Photoshop, the app was designed to meet the specific needs of mobile users. The Photoshop app for iPhone is now available worldwide in the Apple App Store.
