Taylor Swift Breaks Silence on Vienna Concert Cancellations

Taylor Swift says the cancellation of her Vienna tour dates due to an attack threat gave her “a new sense of fear”.

In an Instagram post, she expressed “a tremendous amount of guilt” because so many people had planned to travel to the events.

Three concerts were cancelled in the Austrian capital earlier this month after three persons were arrested for allegedly plotting assaults inspired by the Islamic State group.

The 34-year-old singer-songwriter completed the European leg of her Eras Tour on Tuesday at Wembley Stadium in London.

The US musician wrote on Instagram on Wednesday: “Having our Vienna gigs cancelled was awful.

“But I was also really grateful to the authorities since, due to them, we were mourning concerts rather than deaths.

“I was heartened by the love and unity I saw in the fans who banded together.”

Taylor Swift Explains the Importance of Silence and Restraint

She stated that the safety of her fans was of the utmost importance when continuing her tour, adding, “I decided that all of my energy had to go towards helping to protect the nearly half a million people who were coming to see the shows in London.”

“My team and I worked hand in hand with stadium staff and British authorities every day in pursuit of that goal, and I want to thank them for everything they did for us.”

Explaining why she had chosen to wait until now to speak about the cancellation of the Vienna concerts, which were scheduled to take place between August 8 and 10, she said: “Let me be very clear: I am not going to speak about something publicly if I believe doing so will incite those who wish to harm the fans who attend my shows.

“In situations like this,’silence’ is exercising restraint and waiting to express yourself until the time is appropriate.

“My priority was finishing our European tour safely, and it is with great relief that I can say we did that.”

Taylor Swift played eight gigs at Wembley Stadium this summer, breaking Michael Jackson’s record for any solo performer from 1988.

Taylor Swift’s next event as part of The Eras Tour is slated for October 18 in Miami, FL.
