The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Miami Dolphins 26-7 at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday in temperatures so cold that Chiefs head coach Andy Reid’s moustache froze.

The temperature at kickoff was -4 degrees Fahrenheit with a wind chill of -20 degrees, making it the fourth coldest game in NFL history, according to the Peacock broadcast.

Images of Reid with icicles in his facial hair have gone viral on social media.

Despite the harsh conditions, the Kansas City offence got the ground running, moving down the field on the first drive and finishing with an 11-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes to wide receiver Rashee Rice. Rice finished the game with eight receptions for 130 yards.

The Chiefs never looked back, shutting off the Dolphins’ offence completely.

Harrison Butker, the Chiefs’ kicker, went 4 for 4 on field goals, and running back Isiah Pacheco scored a three-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter to put the game on ice.

Mahomes finished the game with 262 yards and one score.

Taylor Swift attended and braved the freezing temps with a #87 Kelce jacket to support her beau, Travis Kelce. Kelce concluded the game with seven catches for 71 yards.

According to the broadcast, the temperature at the end of the game was -9 degrees, with a feel of -28 degrees.

Players were seen huddling near pitch-side heaters, while several took advantage of heated benches to stay warm.

When asked about the weather on the Peacock broadcast after the game, Mahomes said, “It is what it is.”

“We’re in Kansas City, at Arrowhead,” Mahomes added. “We’re going to play some games like this. So, we decided to come out here, play football, and see what happened.”

Nonetheless, Saturday’s conditions are comparable to the coldest NFL game on record: the December 1967 “Ice Bowl” in Wisconsin, when the Green Bay Packers defeated the Dallas Cowboys despite a -13 air temperature and a -48 wind chill, according to the NFL.

The Houston Texans beat the Cleveland Browns 45-14 earlier on Saturday.

The Texans’ rookie quarterback CJ Stroud had a record day, throwing for 274 yards and three touchdowns. Stroud’s three touchdown throws tied the rookie playoff record. The 23-year-old former second-round pick also made history as the NFL’s youngest quarterback to win a playoff game.

The NFL playoffs resume on Sunday, with the Green Bay Packers travelling to Texas to face the Dallas Cowboys. Matthew Stafford will also return to the city where he began his NFL career when the Los Angeles Rams face the Detroit Lions.

On Monday, the Pittsburgh Steelers travel to frigid Orchard Park, New York, to face the Buffalo Bills, while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers visit the Philadelphia Eagles.
