Scooter Braun Says He’s No Longer A Music Manager, Will Focus On Hybe Duties And His Children
NEW YORK – One of the most well-known figures in the music industry, Scooter Braun, will no longer be a music manager. He has represented musicians, including Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande.
The executive and businessman revealed the news on his Instagram account on Monday. He will instead give his present responsibilities his whole attention: serving as CEO of Hybe America, the entertainment company based in South Korea, and a board member of Hybe Inc.
About a year ago, there was a lot of conjecture surrounding Braun’s direct supervision of his superstar team.

This chapter as a music manager has ended, he said in a long statement. “When I started, I was only 19 years old. I assumed the position of an artist manager, available around the clock, seven days a week, during my entire adult life. I enjoyed it for twenty years as well. I knew nothing other than that. However, my personal life suffered as my kids grew older.
“Every client I have had the honor to work with has changed my life, and I know many of them are just beginning to see the success they deserve,” he said. “I will support each and every one of them.”
Among the many of his past clients that Braun listed in his statement were Grande, Bieber, Andrew Watt, Lil Dicky, Tori Kelly, J Balvin, Demi Lovato, Zac Brown Band, Martin Garrix, David Guetta, Steve Angello, Carly Rae Jepsen, PSY, and Quavo.
According to Hybe reps last week, Grande was still working with Braun even though he was no longer managing her. An announcement said, “Ariana Grande and Hybe, led by CEO Scooter Braun, look forward to continuing their long-standing business partnership and pursuing creative opportunities in Weverse and REM Beauty.”
Online allegations surfaced in August that Justin Bieber was splitting from Braun, his longtime manager and the guy credited with finding him. In the days that followed, media sources started to report that Braun was losing some of his other high-profile clients, including Grande and Lovato.

At the time, someone familiar with SB Projects’ business operations—who requested anonymity—told The Associated Press that Braun talks with the day-to-day managers of the musicians on the roster. The guy pointed out that nobody could handle his repertoire of some of the biggest stars in music by themselves.
Asher Roth, BabyJake, and Carly Rae Jepsen representatives confirmed to AP last summer that those musicians no longer collaborate with Braun and haven’t for some time. And a close Idina Menzel source informed AP that although Braun is no longer managing the singer, she is not allowed to talk in public.
Braun was focusing more on HYBE America than on managing musicians, which led to rumors that his artists were departing SB Projects management, but there was no formal word until Monday.
Braun said in his statement that his quiet was an effort to follow “the high road.”
Citing team members currently in charge of artist management, Braun added, “But for the last three years I have begun to feel that taking the high road has created confusion and ambiguity as to who we are.”
When AP asked for more remarks, Braun posted them to his Instagram post, which included several of his commercial interests.

“Hybe will keep growing,” Braun said, outlining some of his plans. “We will keep adding incredible executives and artists to the roster with… our existing business at Big Machine.”
2019 saw Braun acquire Big Machine Records, the company that signed Taylor Swift and put out her first six albums. CEO Scott Borchetta remained in charge. Braun got the master recordings of Swift with the deal, which he later sold to an investment fund. Swift then declared that she would rerecord her albums in order to own her new masters under a project dubbed “Taylor’s Version.”
