Rihanna’s long-awaited return to the stage at Super Bowl is almost upon us. She is scheduled to perform in the 2023 Super Bowl Halftime Show this evening.

“When I first got the call to do it again this year, I was skeptical. I’ve been three months postpartum. Should I be making such important decisions right now? ‘I may come to regret this,'” Rihanna stated during a press conference last week. “When you become a mother, you suddenly feel like you can take on the world and accomplish anything.

The Super Bowl is one of the world’s largest stages. As terrifying as it was because I hadn’t been on stage in seven years, the challenge was exhilarating. This is something I need to do this year. My son must understand this.”

She previously declined the role in 2019, telling Vogue that she did so because of the NFL’s treatment of former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Rihanna stated: “I couldn’t possibly be a sellout. I couldn’t possibly be an enabler. There are aspects of that organization with which I’m afraid I have to disagree, and I was not about to go and serve them in any way.”

Tonight’s show will be only 13 minutes long, and Rihanna revealed that there would be 39 different setlists. Music of the Sun (2005), A Girl Like Me (2006), Good Girl Gone Bad (2007), Rated R (2009), Loud (2010), Talk That Talk (2011), Unapologetic (2012), and ANTI (2013) are among her eight albums (2016).

For years, fans have been clamoring for a new album from the Barbadian singer, and Rihanna has hinted that she is working on it. “I’m open to exploring, discovering, and creating new, different, odd, or strange things. My fans may never understand what I’m saying, “She stated. “I want to have a good time with the music.” However, it is unlikely that she will perform new music during the show.

The Super Bowl (and the Halftime Show) will air on Fox this year; check your local listings to see which channel Fox is on. If you don’t have cable, you can watch through streaming services such as Hulu, FuboTV, and YouTube TV.

The Super Bowl begins at 6:30 p.m. eastern time, so Rihanna will take the stage shortly after 8 p.m. eastern.

Super Bowl 2023: Chiefs vs. Eagles

The Super Bowl pits the Kansas City Chiefs against the Philadelphia Eagles. Follow The Associated Press for the most recent live updates and news. All times are in MST. 5:02 p.m.

So far in this Super Bowl, the offense has won.

Midway through the first quarter, Patrick Mahomes connected with Travis Kelce on a beautiful fade route to the back corner of the end zone for an 18-yard touchdown.

The drive covered 75 yards in six plays. Isiah Pacheco, a rookie, had 29 yards rushing on the drive.
4:55 p.m.

The Philadelphia Eagles jumped out to an early lead.

Jalen Hurts scored on a 1-yard run to cap an efficient first drive that covered 75 yards in 11 plays. Hurts’ favorite target on the drive was DeVonta Smith, who caught three passes for 41 yards.

The Eagles are the first team to take the opening kickoff in a Super Bowl and drive for a touchdown on offense since the Green Bay Packers did it 25 years ago against the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 32.

In Super Bowl 41, the Chicago Bears scored on Devin Hester’s kickoff return for a touchdown. 4:45 p.m.

The Super Bowl has officially begun.

The Chiefs won the coin toss and started the second half with the ball. The Philadelphia Eagles will have the first offensive possession.

The Eagles got the ball on their 25-yard line after Kansas City kicker Harrison Butker booted the opening kickoff through the back of the end zone.

The retractable roof is open, and the weather is almost ideal, with temperatures in the 70s. The Chiefs and the Eagles have a sizable fan base in Arizona, but it’s decidedly pro-Philadelphia.
4:30 p.m.

Chris Stapleton, a country musician and songwriter, sang the national anthem for the Super Bowl.

The Super Bowl may be known for its luxury, but the anthem was anything but. Stapleton’s smooth baritone voice and a guitar were all that was required. Deaf actor Troy Kotsur, who won an Oscar for his role in “CODA,” co-signed the anthem with Stapleton.

During Stapleton’s emotional performance, Eagles coach Nick Sirianni and starting center Jason Kelce both had tears.

Before Stapleton took the stage, Grammy-winner Babyface performed “America the Beautiful.”

The pregame canonical song series began with “Abbott Elementary” star Sheryl Lee Ralph performing “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” a song dubbed the Black national anthem.

Ralph, dressed in a flowing red velvet gown, began the song as a reflective ballad, but it quickly evolved into a soaring hymn, with military-style drums joining her and a choir dressed entirely in white chiming in behind her.

Super Bowl betting is more popular than ever.

According to the gambling industry’s national trade group, a record 50.4 million American adults plan to bet on this year’s Super Bowl, wagering a total of $16 billion.
