Prince Harry, who was dubbed an f-ing grifter along with his wife by Spotify Exec Bill Simmons, has thrown his family under the bus yet again in his brand new Netflix documentary Heart of Invictus.
According to the Mirror, Prince Harry’s brand new Netflix series Heart of Invictus has finally arrived, however there appears to be some dispute on some of the claims made by the complaining duke in the film.
According to The Mirror, Heart of Invictus is receiving scrutiny in the same manner that the previous Netflix show Harry & Meghan did.
One of the five-part series’ main talking points occurs in the second episode, when Invictus competitors are asked about the mental toll of going to war – and Harry is asked about how it affected him.
After admitting he was upset when he returned from a tour of duty, he claims he “didn’t have that support structure, network, or expert advice to identify actually what was going on with me,” in what many have taken as a royal jab.
He also alleges that returning from Afghanistan reactivated unresolved pain from his mother Diana’s sad death in 1997, when Harry was only 12 years old, and that he only contemplated counselling after he was left “lying on the floor in the foetal position.”
“Look, I can only speak for my personal experience, my tour of Afghanistan in 2012 flying Apaches, somewhere after that there was an unravelling, and the trigger for me was actually returning from Afghanistan,” Harry continues, appearing to take aim at the Firm.
“But the stuff that was coming up was from 1997, from the age of 12, losing my mother at such a young age, the trauma that I had I was never really aware of, it was never discussed, I didn’t really talk about it – and I suppressed it like most teenagers would, but when it all came bursting out I was bouncing off the walls, I was like what is going on here, I am now feeling everything as opposed to being numb.”
“The biggest struggle for me was that no one around me could really help; I didn’t have that support structure, network, or expert advice to figure out what was wrong with me.”
Unfortunately, for most of us, the first time we think about therapy is when we’re lying on the floor in the foetal position, perhaps wishing we’d dealt with some of these stuff earlier, and that’s what I really want to change.”
However, it appears that his recall contradicts comments Harry made in 2017, in which he praised older brother Prince William for encouraging him to seek counselling.
In 2017, he told Bryony Gordon on the Mad World podcast that after returning from Afghanistan, his friends and family urged him, “Look, you really need to deal with this.” It is not reasonable to believe that nothing has happened to you.”
“It’s all about timing,” he added. And, for me personally, my brother, bless him, was a big comfort to me. He kept saying, “This isn’t right, this isn’t normal, you should talk to [someone] about it, it’s OK.”
Meanwhile, Harry spoke in an interview in 2016 about the help he received from the Army after serving in Afghanistan. He stated at the time, “The Army put you through a day, two-day course on the way back through Cyprus, which is crucial to everybody.”
Claim for deployment
In another segment, Harry discusses his first deployment to Afghanistan, where his presence was kept hidden for security concerns. His term of duty was cut short when his cover was broken and he was forced to return to the UK.
In Heart of Invictus, Harry seemed to imply that it was the UK media that discovered his whereabouts and ultimately pushed him to come home early. However, it was a US website and an Australian women’s magazine that initially disclosed Harry’s whereabouts in Afghanistan, prompting his early return home for the protection of himself and his fellow soldiers.
In the same section of the documentary, Harry remembers seeing badly injured service members being airlifted back to the UK. He describes how a curtain aboard the flight blew back, allowing him to see inside the air hospital, where wounded soldiers were receiving critical care.
He cites this moment in 2008 with inspired him to establish the Invictus Games and raise awareness of the troops’ condition. He recalls wanting to bring awareness because he thought their plight was being overlooked.
“As we took off, the curtain in front of me blew open, revealing only the air hospital.” Three young warriors, their body in bits and wrapped in plastic. I observed what only people had mentioned. That was the real turning point in realising the true cost of war.
“Not only those individuals, but also their families, and how their lives would change forever.” As I stepped off the plane, I was upset about what had happened to these individuals, and I was angry that the media was not covering it. But I wasn’t sure what I needed to do at the time.”
This, too, has been challenged, with many noting that there was widespread coverage and support for British troops in Afghanistan, as well as various high-profile charity efforts, such as Help for Heroes, for injured soldiers and families of those who died.
