Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi drew inspiration from former U.S. President Donald Trump during a joint press conference, introducing the slogan “Make India Great Again” or “MIGA.”
Modi and Trump met at the White House to discuss key topics, including trade, economic ties between the two nations, and defence deals.
During the press conference, Modi emphasized India’s focus on rediscovering its heritage and working towards becoming a developed nation by 2047.
“Taking a phrase from the U.S., our vision for a developed India is ‘Make India Great Again’ or MIGA,” Modi said through a translator. “When MAGA and MIGA come together, it creates a mega partnership for growth and prosperity.”
At the event, Trump announced plans to sell F-35 fighter jets to India, highlighting a significant boost in military trade between the two countries.
He also confirmed the approval of the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, a Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin linked to the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks that killed 160 people.
“My administration has approved the extradition of one of the key figures behind the horrific 2008 Mumbai attack so they can face justice in India,” Trump stated.
Modi also addressed the issue of illegal immigrants, agreeing to repatriate Indian nationals residing unlawfully in the United States.
“Anyone entering another country illegally has no right to stay there,” Modi said. “India is ready to take back any verified Indian citizen living in the U.S. without proper documentation.”
