16-year-Old Kills 2 Police Officers Then Himself in Edmonton Canada
Two Canadian police officers were killed on the job after responding to a domestic dispute in Edmonton in western Canada early Thursday. The shooter was only 16 years old.
During a press conference on Thursday, Edmonton police officers Travis Jordan, 35, and Brett Ryan, 30, responded to a “family dispute” in the Inglewood neighborhood around 1 a.m. MDT.
“They entered the building, approached the suite, and were shot by a young male suspect,” Mr. McFee explained.
Police officers Travis Jordan and Brett Ryan were taken to the hospital by fellow officers but pronounced dead shortly after. A female was also taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and has since been stabilized.
According to police, the 16-year-old shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“All indications are that they did not have a chance to discharge their firearms at this time,” he added. “These [officers] were simply doing their jobs. This is unfathomable. It’s unthinkable. It’s terrifying. It’s a calamity.”
Every day, police officers put themselves in harm’s way to keep people safe. The news that two @EdmontonPolice officers have been killed in the line of duty reminds us of that reality. I’m sending my condolences to the officers’ loved ones and colleagues – we’re here for you.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded to the tragic news by tweeting, “Every day, police officers put themselves in harm’s way to keep people safe.”
“The news that two @EdmontonPolice officers have been killed in the line of duty reminds us of that reality. I’m sending my condolences to the officers’ families and colleagues, and please know that we are here for you.” Jordan had been with the department for eight years, while Ryan had been with the agency for five and a half years.
According to Reuters, police officer deaths in Canada are relatively rare, with only five expected in 2022.
Constable Daniel Woodall of the Edmonton Police Service was killed in 2015 after being shot through a door while attempting to enter a residence.
