Police have reported that a couple, who had been living together for a year, allegedly kidnapped a four-year-old boy from the Jaipur railway station last week because they were unable to have children.
The child was reunited with his family on Tuesday after authorities tracked down the suspects. The abduction was recorded on the station’s CCTV cameras.
Jaipur abduction
According to Jaipur Police, the child was with his mother and waiting for a train when he was taken on March 14 by Sundar Kashyap and Jeevika, both 28. Two days later, officers arrested the couple in the Mahuwa area of Dausa district, Rajasthan.
Investigators revealed the couple had been planning the abduction for eight months. They spent several hours watching the railway station before carrying out their plan, police confirmed.
Officials told the Indian Express that Jeevika, who is married to someone else and has two children, had been living with Kashyap, a labourer, in Jaipur for the past year.
Government Railway Police officer Arun Chaudhary explained, “Sundar learned that Jeevika had undergone sterilisation and couldn’t have more children. This led to arguments, but they eventually decided to abduct a child. On March 14, they visited Jaipur Railway Station and took the boy while he was wandering away from his mother. CCTV footage captured the entire incident, which helped us identify and locate the suspects.”
After the kidnapping, the couple took a bus to Mahuwa. Police used CCTV footage and mobile phone tracking to locate them.
When officers arrived at their residence on Sunday, they found the child unharmed, wearing new clothes. The suspects were arrested on the spot.
During questioning, the couple admitted they had purchased clothes and food for the child before the kidnapping. On the day of the abduction, they brought a bag containing the items, including chips and milk, to the station.
The boy has since been returned to his family.
