BIRMINGHAM, England — Before his first home game as a minority owner of the English soccer team Birmingham City, former NFL star and minority owner Tom Brady got to know some of the people.
Before Birmingham’s match against Leeds in the second-tier Championship on Saturday, Brady appeared at The Roost, a pub close to St Andrew’s stadium.
A few hours earlier, Brady had written on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Any plans before kick-off, guys? Let’s meet up at St. Andrew’s.
After his team scored a late goal to secure a 1-0 victory, Birmingham manager John Eustace said Brady got to know the players by providing a pep talk before the game.
A few hours earlier, Brady had written on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Any plans before kick-off, guys? Let’s meet up at St. Andrew’s.
Eustace remarked, “That is excellent to have one of the most well-known sporting people in the world come down and talk to the group. They were all extremely eager to hear him speak, and he gave us some excellent advice. His presence on the team (is positive), in my opinion, as is his incredible vision for the football team.
The seven-time Super Bowl champion has joined forces with Knighthead Capital Management, a U.S.-based holding company for the team, and has been appointed chairman of a fresh advisory board.
A statement from Birmingham stated that Brady will “apply his extensive leadership experience and expertise across several components of the club.” This involves collaborating with the sports science department to guide wellness, diet, and recovery strategies.
Brady won two Super Bowls in 2021, one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and six with the New England Patriots. After Tampa lost in the playoffs, he announced his retirement in February.
