(VOR News) – On Tuesday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called American tariffs “very stupid” and claimed that President Donald Trump of the United States is appeasing Russia while conducting a trade war with Canada.
In his final days in power, Trudeau declared at a news conference that Canada will impose retaliatory tariffs on more than $100 billion worth of American goods in retaliation to Trump’s 25% levy.
Today, the United States and Canada, their closest friends and allies, started a trade war. Simultaneously, they are discussing a beneficial partnership with Russia in order to appease the dishonest and homicidal leader, Vladimir Putin.
Trudeau, clearly agitated, added, “Make that logical.”
China, Canada, and Mexico responded quickly to Trump’s imposition of tariffs on their top three trading partners, leading financial markets to plummet. Trump imposed 25% tariffs on Canadian and Mexican goods just after midnight, but only 10% on Canadian energy.
The Prime Minister stated, “He seeks the complete collapse of the Canadian economy, as this would enable our annexation.” “That will not occur.” We shall never attain the status of the 51st state.
Trudeau stated, “I am interested in speaking directly with one American, Donald.” “I don’t usually agree with the Wall Street Journal, but they say that even though you’re a very intelligent man, this is a really stupid thing to do, Donald.”
Later on Tuesday, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated that the US would most likely meet Canada and Mexico “in the middle” and that an announcement might come as early as Wednesday.
Lutnick promised Fox Business News that Trump would eventually reach a solution, but the tariffs would not be suspended. Lutnick asserts: “I think he’s going to figure it out, you do more, and I’ll meet you in the middle somehow.”
According to a senior government official, Trudeau told provincial premiers during a teleconference on Tuesday afternoon that he hoped to meet with Trump on Wednesday. The official was forbidden from discussing the message in public, so they spoke under the guise of anonymity.
Trump stated in a post on Truth Social earlier Tuesday, “Please inform Governor Trudeau of Canada that our reciprocal tariff will immediately increase by the same amount if he imposes a retaliatory tariff on the United States.”
Trump has instilled hostility among Canadians by jeopardising their sovereignty. Canadian hockey fans have recently started jeering the American national anthem during recent NHL and NBA games.
Canadians feel betrayed, which Trudeau exploited.
“Canadians suffer.” Individuals in Canada are distressed. Trudeau announced, “We are going to decide not to take a vacation in Florida.” “Yes, we will likely continue to jeer the American anthem, and we will try to purchase Canadian goods.”
The premier of Ontario, Canada’s most populous province, has threatened to levy a 25% export tax on power sold to the United States, and eventually cut it off totally, if American tariffs continue. The year 2023 saw 1.5 million homes in Michigan, New York, and Minnesota powered by Ontario.
Furthermore, Ontario Premier Doug Ford informed The Associated Press that he will stop exporting nickel and rare minerals to the United States.
Government shops in Ontario and other provinces had already begun removing American spirits labels from their shelves. The Liquor Control Board of Ontario estimates that annual sales of American wine, beer, spirits and seltzers total around $1 billion Canadian dollars ($687 million).
According to a government official, Lutnick called Ford after his news conference and asked him to step aside. According to the person, Ford assured the US Commerce Secretary that he would be more rigorous because they were banned from discussing the call in public. The official spoke anonymously.
According to the individual, Lutnick admitted that tariffs are a vital component of trade deal negotiations when he spoke with Ford, despite Trudeau’s “very dumb” remark and those of other Canadian politicians being unhelpful.
