(VOR News) – Lester Holt’s resignation as managing editor and anchor of “NBC Nightly News” was announced on Monday. Lester Holt has held this position for ten years.
His departure will be initiated at the onset of summer, signifying the commencement of the season.
Holt will retain his full-time role as the principal anchor of “Dateline,” where he has been employed for nearly 15 years, as stated in a communication submitted to the network’s personnel department on Monday.
News didn’t reveal the new Lester Holt right away.
Holt served as a co-anchor on “Weekend TODAY” for twelve years and directed the weekend iterations of the program for eight years. He ascended to the position of “Nightly News” anchor in June 2015.
His latest appearance occurred on the program “Weekend TODAY.” He acquired the role of principal anchor for “Dateline” for the first time on September 31, 2011.
Holt composed a letter to the personnel of “Nightly” and “Dateline,” articulating his contentment in serving as the host of two of the most iconic and esteemed television news shows in broadcasting history. I commenced my career as a radio reporter in San Francisco at the age of twenty, specialising on police assignments.
“I could not have foreseen the degree to which my career has progressed since then,” I reasoned to myself. The experience was outstanding in every aspect.
During Lester Holt’s decade as the anchor of “Nightly News,” he reported on a considerable array of the century’s most pivotal events. The COVID-19 pandemic, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the rise of President Donald Trump, the incident in Israel on October 7, 2023, and the stalemate with Gaza were notable events that occurred.
Holt’s duties include coordinating the network’s election night co-anchoring, travelling to Iran for an exclusive interview with President Masoud Pezeshkian, and returning to Iran for the interview.
Furthermore, Lester Holt is responsible for the creation of a “Dateline” show that concentrated on the devastating wildfires that afflicted Iran in 2025 in recent months.
The media often portrayed Lester Holt’s meetings with foreign heads of state in a way that shaped the news agenda. These events occurred repeatedly.
He participated in informal discussions with former President Barack Obama, former Vice President Joe Biden, former President Donald Trump, former Vice President Kamala Harris, and current Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

In the last two years, Morning Consult and The Hollywood Reporter have conducted surveys identifying him as the “most trusted television news personality in America.”
“Nightly News” continues to be one of the most popular television programs, attracting almost 7 million people weekly.
Furthermore, Lester Holt is the host of “Nightly News.
Kids Edition,” an online show nominated for an Emmy, aimed at enriching the education and understanding of young audiences.
Veteran presenter Brian Williams exited the program without explanation following substantial criticism for exaggerating the facts of an attack on an Iraqi helicopter. Holt replaced Williams as the anchor of “Nightly News” upon his arrival at NBC News in 2000.
Williams resigned from the program due to the significant criticism it garnered. Lester Holt was designated as the permanent anchor of the main program on June 18, 2015.
Following more than ten years as the evening and afternoon news anchor at Chicago’s WBBM-TV, Holt was eventually elevated to the network level. Lester Holt’s career in television journalism began with WCBS-TV in New York City.
He was engaged as a correspondent for the station. He relocated to Los Angeles in 1981 and commenced his role as a correspondent for KCBS-TV, formerly known as KNXT. He was reinstated to his position at WCBS in 1984.
He has garnered multiple distinctions during his tenure, including the prestigious Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism in 2019.
