(VOR News) – President Donald Trump fired U.S. Archivist Colleen Shogan on Friday and announced plans to reorganize the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ board of directors. These steps are part of Trump’s continued efforts to weaken Washington-based institutions.

The national archivist, who is also in charge of federal records, oversees the National Records, which Donald Trump has repeatedly disparaged since the Justice Department told him about his handling of classified material at the start of 2022.

Not only is the Kennedy Center a beneficiary of federal monies, but it is also widely regarded as the nation’s most prestigious arts institution and has been praised by both Democrats and Republicans. Members of the board of trustees are chosen by the organization’s president.

Donald Trump’s interactions with these groups are hard to anticipate.

As part of an investigation into the theft of official presidential documents from the White House during President Donald Trump’s first term in office, the FBI conducted a search warrant at the president’s Mar-a-Lago property in 2022. Materials were sought by the U.S. National Archives.

He was then charged with unlawful possession of confidential materials. That lawsuit, along with another that accused him of trying to rig the 2020 election results following Trump’s 2024 triumph, was dropped by former Special Counsel Jack Smith.

The archivist was fired at President Donald Trump’s request, according to a statement posted on X by Sergio Gor, the head of the White House’s Presidential Personnel Office. Gor conveyed his appreciation to Colleen Shogan for her help.

According to Shogan, who wasn’t working when the document probe started, Donald Trump fired her without giving her a reason. Shogan posted this claim on LinkedIn. She said, “I harbor no regrets – I exerted my utmost effort daily for the American populace and the National Archives.”

Trump’s suspension of Biden’s security clearance shows his disdain for foreign aid.

Donald Trump, a Republican, has begun significant reform of the government one month after taking office. He has fired and marginalized hundreds of senior executives at agencies and public works as part of his early attempts to minimize bureaucracy and replace it with employees who are more devoted to the government.

He made the critique at the Kennedy Center on Friday, denouncing the group for presenting “drag shows specifically aimed at our youth.”

U.S. President Donald Trump chose not to attend the Kennedy Center Honors, which are held every year and are regarded as the most prestigious awards in the field of cultural achievement. The center’s managers made it plain during the center’s December finale, which Vice President Joe Biden attended, that President Trump was invited to come at a later time.

The U.S. president announced Friday that he intends to replace David Rubenstein, commonly known as Rubenstein, who is the head of the Kennedy Center’s board of directors.

Trump said on social media that “I have resolved to promptly terminate the tenure of numerous members of the Board of Trustees, including the Chairman, who do not share our vision for a Golden Age in Arts and Culture.” “We will soon announce a new board, with Donald J. Donald Trump as the esteemed chairman.”

In the month before he left office, Vice President Joe Biden presented Rubenstein, a wealthy businessman and philanthropist, with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. This was one of the last things Biden did before leaving office.

There was no response to Rubenstein’s request for a statement.

According to a statement issued by the Kennedy Center, the White House, which chooses the institution’s leader, has not formally notified the center of any changes to its board of directors.

The official announcement confirmed that certain members of our board have received notifications of termination from the government.

“This would mark the inaugural instance of such an action concerning the Kennedy Center’s board; however, nothing in the Center’s statutes prohibits a new administration from substituting board members.”

The National Symphony Orchestra and the Washington National Opera have their formal headquarters at the Kennedy Center, which also hosts over 2,000 events a year. Named for its namesake, the building is a living tribute to President John F. Kennedy.
