Despite a Case Backlog, the Department of Justice Fires Many Immigration Judges.

(VOR News) – The Department of Justice dismissed numerous immigration judges on Friday, as reported in a LinkedIn statement by a judge and two others acquainted with the matter.

The restructuring of government personnel under the Trump administration may impede the already burdened immigration system.

The acting director of the Executive Office for Immigration Review, responsible for supervising immigration court cases, announced his termination. The Trump administration has dismissed more than 22 immigration judges, managers, and recent appointees.

A group of Department of Justice immigration judges backs this.

On Friday, the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers dismissed 13 new judge applicants and 5 midlevel assistant chief immigration judges.

Doyle formerly served as deputy general counsel at the Department of Justice and Security during the Biden administration.

“Notwithstanding the Immigration Court’s approximately 3.5 million pending cases and the Department of Justice’s request to Congress for additional funding to employ more EOIR personnel, this termination transpired.” Doyle referenced the Executive Office of Immigration Review on LinkedIn.

Doyle stated that the Biden administration dismissed her and other personnel for political motives. NBC News is unable to verify the quantity of judges dismissed owing to insufficient evidence.

The Departments of Justice and Homeland Security did not respond to requests for comment. The Congressional Research Service indicates that the dismissal of immigration judges may exacerbate the backlog of cases, which has reached unprecedented levels for three consecutive years.

The CRS said that the southwest border experienced unprecedented enforcement contacts last year, leading to almost 1.8 million additional cases. Notwithstanding the Biden administration’s efforts to expedite processing durations and recruit additional immigration judges.

By 2024, the Department of Justice will have 3.6 million immigration cases.

Biggs stated, “The administration has effectively exacerbated the backlog of approximately four million cases, as demonstrated by the recent dismissals.”

The Trump administration has concentrated on employing experts to facilitate the deportation of “millions and millions” of individuals. Tom Homan, designated as Trump’s “border czar,” has recruited personnel from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, as well as the Drug Enforcement Administration, to assist ICE in detaining immigrants.

The Department of Justice has requested the resignation of politically appointed US counsel from previous administrations. However, on this occasion, the government dismissed 12 US solicitors. The effect on the quantity of US solicitors remains ambiguous.

The Department of Justice dismissed multiple attorneys engaged in a federal lawsuit regarding Trump’s purported efforts to manipulate the 2020 election outcomes and his alleged misuse of confidential material last month. Trump refuted all allegations, and the lawsuits were dismissed following his re-election.

The initial weeks of Trump’s administration witnessed extensive layoffs that significantly impacted federal employees. The government successfully convinced millions of employees to retire while continuing to receive their pay cheques through September, after a federal court’s approval of Trump’s mass buyout proposal earlier this week.

This week, the Office of Personnel Management urged agency managers to terminate probationary employees who had been with the organisation for a short duration.

The Department of Government Efficiency, directed by Elon Musk, has been pivotal in Trump’s initiatives to streamline the government workforce. This initiative has concentrated on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the U.S. Agency for International Development, among others.
