Andrew Tate’s Detention in Romania Extended Yet Another 30 Days
Former Kick Boxer and Social Media influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan’s detention in Romania has been extended for the third time, and they will be held until at least the end of March.
In December, the pair were arrested on suspicion of human trafficking, rape, and forming an organized crime group. Both men have maintained their innocence.
Their detention had previously been extended until February 27th but has now been extended for 30 days.
Georgiana Naghel and Luana Radu, two Romanian women held with the brothers, will be released from custody and placed under house arrest.
Prosecutors requested the latest extension on Tuesday. The previous extension was justified by the defendant’s ability to “exercise permanent psychological control over the victims,” according to the judges.
Andrew Tate says detention is very challenging.

NEW statements released by The Tate Brothers Lawyers after today’s court appearance (21/2/23)‼️ pic.twitter.com/p6I5oVbRLA— Censored Men (@CensoredMen) February 21, 2023
According to the BBC, the Tate brothers have threatened legal action against at least one woman who has filed rape and human trafficking claims against him. In a “cease-and-desist” letter sent on their behalf by a US lawyer, the couple threatened to sue the woman and her parents for $300 million (£249 million) if she did not retract her statements.
Lawyers for the Tates told journalists after today’s extension application was filed that no new evidence was presented at the hearing and that the prosecutors’ case did not support the brothers’ continued detention.
Last week, a legal adviser for the brothers told the BBC that any decision to keep them in custody beyond next Monday would be challenged. She asked how the brothers responded to their continued detention, which was “very challenging”.
Mr. Tate, a former kickboxer, rose to prominence in 2016 after being booted from the British TV show Big Brother due to a video that appeared to show him assaulting a woman.
He became well-known online, with Twitter banning him for saying that women should “bear responsibility” for sexual assault. He was later reinstated.
