Netflix just revealed that Season 2 of Squid Game will start on December 26, 2024. There will be a third and final season in 2025. The drama-thriller that went viral and became the most popular thing of 2020 is back.
Hwang Dong-hyuk, who is the chief producer, writer, and director of the show, spoke to Inverse to tell fans all over the world the good news. There was a sneak peek of a track race with the announcement. It wasn’t for a medal, but for life. The Frontman gets people ready for the real game that’s about to start as bodies fall.
It’s not very exciting; all we see are some new players in their famous green jumpsuits and Lee Jung-jae as Seong Gi-hun, player #456 from Season 1.
The teaser says that Season 2 will be where “the real game begins,” which means that Season 2 won’t just carry on the playground games from Season 1. Instead, things will get worse, and Gi-hun will have to deal with the people who are running this crazy game.
The second season is only half over, but this show’s end is already in sight. When Netflix stated that Season 2 would be out on December 26, it was at the beginning of August. At the same time, showrunner Hwang Dong-hyuk also said that the show would be back for a third and final season at some point in the future. With that ending in mind, it’s possible that Season 2 will hint at the end in some way.
Season 2 of Squid Game on Netflix might come out in the last few days of 2024, but there won’t be another two-year break between episodes. These hints lead us to think that the real game begins now and will end sometime next year.
