(LOS ANGELES) – Next month’s MTV Video Music Awards will honor Shakira with the Video Vanguard Award. Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, and Missy Elliott are among the previous honorees.
She will also take the stage at the VMAs for the first time in 17 years.
The Colombian singer has won four VMAs throughout her career, beginning with the International Viewer’s Choice (Latin America North) in 2000.
She is up for four awards this year, including Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration (for “XQG,” with Karol G), and two nominations in the Best Latin category — for the same Karol G collaboration and her solo single, “Acróstico.”
Next month’s MTV Video Music Awards will honor Shakira with the Video Vanguard Award.
“Shakira is a true global force whose unique musical prowess continues to inspire and influence the masses.” “She’s a trailblazer for women all over the world and one of the first artists to lead the globalisation of Latin tunes,” said Bruce Gillmer, president of music, talent, programming, and events at Paramount. “Her massive impact across the musical landscape will be long-lasting as she continues to create and entertain at the highest level.”
Taylor Swift leads the nominees for the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. She has the most, with eight — seven for her “Anti-Hero” video and a nomination for Artist of the Year — followed by SZA, who has six.
The VMAs will be placed on September 12th at the Prudential Centre in Newark, New Jersey.
