ATHENS — The body of missing British TV personality Michael Mosley was discovered on a Greek island Sunday morning after a days-long search, according to his family.
A police spokesman, speaking on the condition of anonymity due to an ongoing investigation, stated that a body was discovered on a rocky coast by a private boat and that formal identification was awaited.
Mosley’s wife said in a statement that her husband went the wrong way on a trek and collapsed in an area where his corpse couldn’t be seen. Michael disappeared on the island of Symi on Wednesday afternoon.

“Michael was an adventurous man, which is part of what made him so unique,” Dr. Clare Bailey Mosley said. “I am devastated to have lost Michael, my amazing, humorous, kind, and bright husband. We had a really lucky life together. We adored one other and were really happy together.”
She congratulated the people of Symi, saying they had worked valiantly to find him.
“Some of these people on the island, who hadn’t even heard of Michael, worked from dawn till dusk unasked,” she continued. “The outpouring of affection from individuals worldwide has much soothed my family and me. It’s apparent Michael meant a lot to so many of you.
The island’s mayor, Lefteris Papakalodoukas, told The Associated Press that he was in the boat with media representatives when they spotted a body about 20 meters above the Agia Marina beach. “We zoomed with the cameras and saw it was him,” he stated.

The mayor stated that Michael looked to have fallen on a steep, rocky hill, colliding with a fence and lying face up with a few boulders.
Local media said that one of the police officers who were removing Michael’s body collapsed on the slope and had to be carried away on a stretcher. The body will be transported to the nearby island of Rhodes for an autopsy.
Michael, 67, was well-known in Britain for his regular television and radio appearances and his column in the Daily Mail. He was known outside the United Kingdom for his 2013 book “The Fast Diet,” which he co-authored with journalist Mimi Spencer. The book recommended the so-called “5:2 diet,” which promised to help people lose weight quickly by limiting their calorie consumption two days a week while eating properly the remaining five.

He later launched a quick weight loss program and produced a series of diet and fitness films.
Mosley frequently pushed his body to its limits to test the effects of his diets, and he also spent six weeks with tapeworms in his stomach for the BBC documentary “Infested!” “Living with Parasites.”
Mosley has four children with his wife, Clare Bailey Mosley, a doctor, author, and health commentator.
