Madonna Will Fund A Youth Art Project To Celebrate Her 66th Birthday
ROME — Madonna will support an artistic initiative involving young people, she stated during her 66th birthday festivities in Pompeii.
While touring Pompeii’s archaeological site with its director, Gabriel Zuchtriegel, on Friday, the American pop diva came into a group of youths participating in “Sogno di Volare,” or “Dream of Flying.”

As part of the initiative, which is now in its fourth year, hundreds of young artists perform re-adapted Aristophanes comedies, beginning at Pompeii’s amphitheater, Teatro Grande, then touring to various Italian theatres. Madonna said she would support “Dream of Flying” for around 250,000 euros ($275,000) for a year.
“This project generously supported by Madonna is strategic for Pompeii, because it is directed to the people who live in this marvellous and complex territory, in particular youths,” Zuchtriegel told reporters. He pointed out that many of the children engaged live in low-income southern areas with high school dropout rates and unemployment.
