Liza Minnelli seemed bored of other people recounting her narrative.

In a statement to People, the famous performer said that she is writing a memoir about everything from her fight with substance abuse to her high-profile marriages.

“Since I was old enough to put pencil to paper, people asked me to write books about my career,” she told me. “Absolutely not! ‘Tell it after I’m gone! It was my philosophy.”

Minnelli criticized “a sabotaged appearance at the Oscars,” “a film with twisted half-truths,” and “a recent miniseries that just didn’t get it right.” She cited “all made by people who didn’t know my family and don’t really know me” as reasons for sharing her life story now.

“Finally, I was mad as hell!” she exclaimed. “One night over dinner, I decided to tell my own experience… I will share it with you because of all the love you’ve shown me.

The project is a partnership between Pulitzer Prize winner Heidi Evans, Los Angeles Times alum Josh Getlin, and Tony winner Michael Feinstein, a long-time friend of Minnelli’s.

“We’ve been inseparable for four decades. “As Ambassador of the Great American Songbook and my absolute favourite collaborator,” she stated of Feinstein. “Michael is one of the greats; he’s razor-sharp and speaks the truth. That’s significant because memories change as I approach my eighth decade of life.”

Judy Garland’s daughter expressed gratitude to her supporters: “Thank you all for loving me so much…” being concerned for me.”

“I want you to know I’m still here, kicking a**, loving life, and creating,” she stated in her message. “So, until this book arrives, know that I’m laughing, safe in every manner, surrounded by loved ones, and eager to explore what’s around the corner in life. Kids, wait until you hear this.”

Minnelli’s book is set to be published in the spring of 2026.
