Lil Tay has not passed away.
Following a posting on her official Instagram profile claiming that the teen and her elder brother Jason had both died, the rapper informed followers that she is still alive—and the victim of hacking.
“I want to make it clear that my brother and I are safe and alive, but I’m completely heartbroken and struggling to even find the right words to say,” the social media sensation wrote in a family statement released to TMZ on Aug. 10. “It’s been a traumatic 24 hours.” I was plagued with sorrowful and tearful phone calls from loved ones all day yesterday, all while attempting to straighten out this mess.”
“My Instagram account was compromised by a third party and used to spread shocking misinformation and rumors about me, to the point where even my name was incorrect,” she continued. Tay Tian is my legal name, not ‘Claire Hope.'”
A statement was included in the initial Instagram post, uploaded on Aug. 9, detailing the teen’s “sudden and tragic passing.”
“We have no words to express the unbearable loss and indescribable pain,” stated the message. “This result was completely unexpected and has left us all stunned.”

According to the statement, Lil Tay’s brother Jason also died, adding “an even more unimaginable depth” to their family’s sadness.
“During this time of immense sorrow, we kindly ask for privacy as we grieve this overwhelming loss,” the statement said, “as the circumstances surrounding Claire and her brother’s passing are still under investigation.”
Though Lil Tay’s management acknowledged her death to Variety, her father, Christopher Hope, and her former manager, Harry Tsang, refused to confirm or deny her death when reached by Insider.
“Given the complexities of the current circumstances, I am at a point where I cannot definitively confirm or dismiss the legitimacy of the statement issued by the family,” Harry said. “This situation necessitates caution and consideration for the sensitivities involved.” My dedication remains focused on providing reliable and timely updates.”
Lil Tay confirmed to TMZ that she has access to her social media accounts and that the post has been removed.
