Kamala Harris' Presidential Campaign Raises $500 Million in 4 Weeks

According to Reuters, US Vice President Kamala Harris‘ campaign has raised around $500 million since becoming the Democratic presidential candidate. This historic amount demonstrates donor enthusiasm for the November 5 election.

Four sources familiar with the fundraising drive told Reuters that Harris has banked that amount in the four weeks since entering the contest on July 21.

Campaign funds are essential for advertising and get-out-the-vote activities, which help get people to the polls and persuade indecisive voters to support a candidate.

Kamala Harris entered the race after President Joe Biden stepped down from the top of the Democratic ticket, triggering a rush of financing that had dried up in the weeks following Biden’s dismal debate with Republican Trump.

Kamala Harris raised $200 million in the first week of her campaign, and she easily secured support to become the party’s nominee.

Harris’ campaign raised $310 million in July, increasing the total amount raised by her and Biden before he dropped out to more over $1 billion, the fastest crossing of that fundraising milestone in history, according to the campaign.

In July, Trump’s campaign reported raising $138.7 million and having $327 million in cash on hand. The former president’s campaign outperformed Biden’s in the second quarter.

Kamala Harris’s enthusiasm, which peaked at $377 million in July, has carried over into August, as seen by small-dollar donations and thousands of people attending her rallies in electoral battleground states across the country.

According to OpenSecrets, which analyses money in politics, Biden’s campaign committee raised $1.04 billion in the 2020 election cycle, or $1.62 billion when combined with outside groups.

Kamala Harris praised Biden on Monday night at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, where the president highlighted his accomplishments and urged people to support Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, in November.

Former President Barack Obama, who is also a major fundraiser, will speak at the convention on Tuesday night, while Harris will campaign in nearby Wisconsin.

Obama went to two high-profile fundraisers with Biden and has offered to assist Kamala Harris with more.

Harris has regularly referred to herself as an underdog in the fight against Trump, hoping to keep her voting and donor base motivated.
