According to Jack Black, tenacious D is taking a hiatus but will return.

At the premiere of his new sci-fi film “Borderlands” on Tuesday night, Black discussed abandoning the rest of his band Tenacious D’s tour after bandmate Kyle Gass made a widely condemned statement about the murder attempt on former US President Donald Trump.

“We should take a break. “Everyone needs a break occasionally,” Black told Variety.

When asked if he had contacted Gass since the tour’s cancellation, Black replied, “Yes, we’re pals. That has not altered. Sometimes these things take time. And we’ll return when it feels appropriate.”

The band postponed the remaining tour dates last month after footage released on social media from their July 14 show in Sydney, Australia, sparked outrage.

Concertgoers took a video of Black presenting Gass with a birthday cake onstage and telling him to “make a wish.”

Gass said, “Don’t miss Trump next time,” referring to the assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania.

Following the exchange, one Australian senator called for the band’s deportation.

Black then told CNN that he was “blindsided by what was said on the show.”

In the days after his statement, Gass apologized in an Instagram post.

“The line I improvised onstage in Sydney on Sunday night was completely improper, dangerous and a terrible error. “I do not condone any form of violence against anyone,” he wrote at the time.

He continued, “What happened was a catastrophe, and I’m deeply sorry for my lack of judgement. I deeply apologise to anyone I have let down and sincerely regret any sorrow I have caused.”

His Hollywood talent agent has already dropped Gass. His agency, Michael Greene of Greene Talent, told CNN last month that he had parted company with Gass but had no further comment.
