(VOR News) – According to a researcher in charge of conducting the study, hundreds of cases of prostate cancer were found in low-income areas of London thanks to a mobile screening program called “Man Van.”
The researcher who was in charge of carrying out the investigation came to this conclusion.
Under the direction of Dr. Masood Moghul, researchers from London’s Royal Marsden Hospital presented their findings at the biennial Genitorurinary Prostate Cancer Symposium in San Francisco.
The American Society of Clinical Oncology organised the event. Dr. Moghul served as the seminar’s facilitator. Additionally, the meeting was hosted by the American Society of Oncology.

The public was invited to attend screenings between January 2023 and January 2024. To find out if patients had prostate-specific antigen (PSA), a mobile clinical unit staffed by nurses performed tests.

Since it seemed very likely that they would be involved in the research project, the decision was made to move forward in this way.
3,379 men, whose average age was 59, agreed to test themselves during the course of the inquiry. Furthermore, even though only 310 of these men were referred for additional testing because of the likelihood of prostate cancer, biopsies were conducted on 127 of them.
In comparison, 36.4% of participants were non-white, while 16.7% of the total participants were males of African descent.
We detected clinically significant prostate cancer in 81 men.
This represents 2.8% of the entire population. The total number of guys in the general population who were found to have the disease based on test findings is represented by this figure.
All of the treatments that were given to these male patients were customised to meet the individual needs of each patient.
One man had been diagnosed with bladder cancer, 207 had pre-diabetes, and 11% of the men had diabetes. Forty-three percent of men had diabetes. The examination revealed that only one individual had bladder cancer.
“With a streamlined and more efficient service, we have maintained high uptakes for health checks and a willingness to engage with health improvement measures from deprived and ethnic minority groups,” according to the authors of the study.
“We have also maintained a high level of satisfaction with the service.” The second most prevalent prostate cancer diagnosed worldwide in 2020 was prostate cancer, which also happened to be the second highest cause of death for males with cancer.
