Jane Fonda To Attend Vienna Opera Ball With 90 Year-Old Date
VIENNA, Austria — Jane Fonda, an American actor, said Wednesday that she accepted an invitation to the Vienna Opera Ball from an Austrian construction tycoon because he offered to “pay me quite a bit of money.”
At a news conference with her date, 90-year-old Richard Lugner, the 85-year-old Academy Award and Golden Globe winner, said she needed the money to pay her bills and support her grandchildren.
“I have a lot of people on my side,” Fonda said.
The opera ball is one of the highlights of Austria’s social calendar and is known for its celebrity guest list. This year’s event takes place on Thursday.
Lugner is well-known for lavishly paying famous women to accompany him to the ball. Pamela Anderson, Kim Kardashian, and model Elle MacPherson are among his previous guests.
Fonda Is Excited To Go To The Ball With Her Lovely Date
Fonda stated that she would not be dancing at the ball because she has a “fake shoulder, two fake hips, and two fake knees.”
“I’m old, and I might fall apart,” joked the actor, whose recent credits include “Grace and Frankie” and “80 for Brady.”
She admitted to being misinformed before accepting Lugner’s invitation, telling reporters she thought it was for an “opera performance” rather than a ball.
Fonda, well-known for her activism to prevent teen pregnancy and combat climate change, expressed “regret” after learning that Austrian oil and gas company OMV sponsored the Vienna Opera Ball.
“These fossil fuel corporations are criminals. They’re thugs. They are murdering people. “They’re destroying the planet,” she stated.
“Please try to persuade your opera not to accept funding from an oil company,” Fonda added.
