(VOR News) – Tens of thousands of people have fled their homes since a new, explosive wildfire north of Los Angeles started on Wednesday, prompting panic among people living in an area still recovering from two deadly fires.

Furious flames that covered around 9,400 acres destroyed the mountains next to Castaic Lake within hours. Strong, dry Santa Ana winds carried throughout the area drove a thick cloud of smoke and embers ahead of the firefront, further aggravating the blaze.

A 31,000-person evacuation warning covered the lake, which is 56 kilometers north of Los Angeles and next to Santa Clarita. A man told broadcaster KTLA, packing his car, “I am merely hoping that our house remains unaffected by fire.”

Following the devastation of America’s second-largest city by two catastrophic events resulting in the deaths of over twenty people and causing billions of damages.

Los Angeles tensions were heightened by the Hughes Fire.

As California is ready for major rebuilding, President Donald Trump reaffirmed his baseless claim that the state was wrongfully reallocating water from the disaster zone and threatened to revoke federal assistance.

Declared Trump during a Wednesday night Fox News interview, “I am of the opinion that we should refrain from providing any assistance to California until they allow water to flow into their system from the northern region of the state.” Los Angeles mostly gets its water from aqueducts and canals originating from separate river basins eastward.

A scenario that is “fluid”.

Anthony Marrone, Los Angeles County Fire Chief, said that the significant reaction—which included aircraft and bulldozers—was producing good results since around 4,000 firefighters were quickly gathered to fight the new fire.

“despite our progress, the situation remains fluid and the fire remains difficult to manage,” he said during an evening news conference. “We will remain on-site throughout the night enhancing perimeter control, ensuring the extinguishment of hot spots, and preparing sufficient staging and resources to deploy to the fire line in case of a flare-up.”

Following a difficult day for the area, the hopeful view surfaced as many watched the aerial combat on television—a condition that had been normal during the protracted campaigns to put out the Eaton and Palisades Fires.

Aircraft carried tens of thousands of fire retardants; helicopters sprayed water to extinguish the fire and lessen the firefront impact. Apart from DC-10 planes and dual-rotor helicopters, the fleet comprised two Super Scoopers, large amphibious aircraft able to carry hundreds of gallons (liters) of water.

Personnel from the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the Angeles National Forest also battled the fire from ground-level.

They released the detainees.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna evacuated the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic, sending around 500 prisoners to a neighboring institution.

For over 4,600 prisoners housed in nearby facilities, shelter-in-place was instituted; yet, trucks were ready should conditions call for their removal. The California Highway Patrol closed the I5 freeway for many hours, therefore upsetting a vital artery spanning the whole western coast of the United States.

Rush hour and the reopening of the freeway resulted in significant traffic congestion as thousands of motorists tried to get home. Cal Fire’s Brent Pascua says that the convergence of multiple elements has made the fire quite volatile.

Emphasizing “this brush has not encountered moisture for an extended period, and we are experiencing winds and low humidity,” he said “These elements taken together help the fire to spread quickly.”

Thursday was expected to be windy as well. Through the uncontrolled burning of fossil fuels, which has resulted in raised global temperatures and changed weather patterns, human activity is greatly affecting the temperature of the Earth.

Although January is the height of the rainfall season in Southern California, a lack of notable precipitation has caused an eight-month drought in the area. >
