Cash App Founder Bob Lee Dead At 43 After Being Stabbed
Bob Lee, a co-founder of Cash App and the chief product officer of cryptocurrency startup MobileCoin, was slain in a stabbing assault in San Francisco on April 4th. He was 43.
The San Francisco Police Department said in a statement that officers went to a stabbing complaint around 2:35 a.m. and found a wounded man. He was treated at the site before being taken to the hospital, where he died from his life-threatening injuries. There have been no charges in the case, which is still being investigated.
Although authorities have not confirmed the man’s name, sources informed NBC Bay Area that Lee was the stabbing victim. Josh Goldbard, CEO of MobileCoin, also verified his colleague’s death.
“Our dear friend and colleague, Bob Lee, passed away yesterday at the age of 43, survived by a loving family and a collection of close friends and collaborators,” he wrote on the website of MobileCoin’s newly launched payment app Moby. “Bob was a dynamo, a natural force.” “Bob was the real deal.”
Lee was known as “Crazy Bob” on Twitter and among his pals. And, as Goldbard puts it, he “got his nickname from water polo, but it also worked for the rest of his life.” He was someone who understood the universe in ways that I don’t even comprehend. He was created for the planet that is currently being born. Bob was a dreamer, and whatever he envisioned, no matter how crazy, he made come true. Bob was born to live in the new universe.”
Lee was known as “Crazy Bob” on Twitter and among his pals.
“From large contributions to Android at Google to being the first CTO of Square, in that time creating CashApp, and working with us here at MobileCoin, Bob surely had an impact that will last far beyond his short time on earth,” Goldbard said of Lee.
“This may sound impressive, but Bob’s real resume is the hearts and minds he touched during his time here,” he continued. Bob’s legacy is the belief that if you strive hard enough, you can make a difference. His daughters are Bob’s legacy.”
According to numerous news outlets, Lee is survived by his wife, Krista Lee and their two children.
“Steve Jobs once said, ‘Real Artists ship.’ Bob was a true artist who delivered his work. He was honored to be a member of MobileCoin’s Society of cryptographic artists. Here’s to the outlandish. Bob, we will miss you. “We adore you,” Goldbard ended in his note. “For the time being, MobileCoin will lament. We now focus on honoring Bob’s legacy by keeping his loved ones near.”
