MTV Cancels EMAs Awards Show In Paris, Citing Israel-Hamas War

The PARIS – Citing the Israel-Hamas War, the MTV Europe Music Awards canceled its performance-packed ceremony scheduled for next month on Thursday.

The November 5 event had been planned to feature performances by Ozuna, Renée Rapp, and Thirty Seconds to Mars, among others.

“The MTV EMAs honor international music on an annual basis.” As the tragic developments in Israel and Gaza persist, the current situation does not evoke worldwide jubilation. “Mourning has ensued for the thousands of lives that have already been lost,” a spokesperson for the corporation said in a statement.

Additionally, “out of an abundance of caution for the thousands of employees, crew members, artists, fans, and partners who travel from all over the world to bring the show to life,” the statement explained, the decision was reached.

The EMAs, according to MTV, will reappear in November 2024.

To emerge victorious, Taylor Swift won four trophies at the EMAs in Dusseldorf, Germany, including Best Artist, Best Video, and best Longform Video.

Swift once again received the most nominations this year, with seven. Olivia Rodrigo and SZA were tied for second place with six each.
