Italy Honors Kevin Spacey With Lifetime Achievement Award

Just two weeks after a New York jury ruled in favour of Kevin Spacey in a sexual abuse complaint, Italy’s film museum announced Thursday that the actor will be honoured with a lifetime achievement award and will teach a master class there early next year.

The class and prize recognizing Spacey’s contribution to the growth of cinema will take place on January 16, 2023, according to Enzo Ghigo, head of the National Museum of Cinema in Turin’s northern city. The celebration will also involve a screening of a Spacey film, though Ghigo would not specify which one.

“We are thrilled that such a distinguished visitor as Kevin Spacey picked Turin and our museum for this long-awaited comeback to a public event,” he remarked.

Previous Stella Della Mole Award recipients include performers Isabella Rossellini, Monica Bellucci, and filmmaker Dario Argento.

On Oct. 21, a federal jury in a civil case in New York determined that Spacey, 63, did not sexually abuse Anthony Rapp in 1986 when both were relatively unknown Broadway actors and Rapp was 14 years old.

The jury pondered for about an hour before concluding that Rapp, now 50, had not established his charges.

Kevin Spacey’s skyrocketing career was wrecked by Rapp’s and others’ #MeToo allegations.

The two-time Academy Award winner lost his starring role on Netflix’s “House of Cards,” as well as other prospects.

Rapp has appeared on “Star Trek: Discovery” and was a member of the original Broadway cast of “Rent.”

Spacey previously faced accusations in Massachusetts of groping a guy in a bar, which prosecutors later dropped. He pleaded not guilty in London three months ago to charges that he sexually abused three men between 2004 and 2015 while serving as creative director of the Old Vic theatre.

This summer, a judge in Los Angeles upheld an arbitrator’s decision to force Kevin Spacey to pay $30.9 million to “House of Cards” producers for breaching his contract by sexually assaulting staff members.

In Turin, Kevin Spacey shot his most recent picture, “The Man Who Drew God,” directed by Franco Nero.

“Now, he chose Turin for a master class out of all the cities in the world.” “He couldn’t have given us a better present than this,” said Domenico De Gaetano, director of the National Museum of Cinema, according to the news release.

Gaeteno intends to interview Kevin Spacey on his career at the January event.
