BET Awards Return Sunday Night, Celebrating 50 Years Of Hip-Hop
(LOS ANGELES) – The BET Awards are back on Sunday night, with a presentation that promises to honor 50 years of hip-hop.
Kid Capri will arrange a tribute to hip-hop’s most historic moments for the show, which will take place at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles. Patti Labelle will also pay tribute to Tina Turner, who died in 2005.
The show will air on BET, BET HER, and several Paramount channels, including Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, and VH1, at 8 p.m. EDT. It was also streamed live on BET .com.
Drake has seven nominations, including best male hip-hop artist and Male R&B/pop Artist, as well as a few shared titles, such as best collaboration and Viewer’s Choice with Future and Tems for their song “Wait for U.” Drake is also competing for album of the year, best group, and viewer’s choice for his collaboration with 21 Savage, “Her Loss,” as well as viewer’s choice for their song “Jimmy Cooks.”

With five nominations each, Lizzo and 21 Savage are tied for second place.
Busta Rhymes will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, one of the ceremony’s greatest honors, formerly awarded to Sean “Diddy” Combs. With seven Top 10 Billboard Hot 100 successes, the 12-time Grammy Award-nominated rapper, producer, and pioneering hip-hop figure is widely recognized as one of the great MCs.
Rhymes will be honored by Bia, Coi Leray, Cutty Ranks, Dexta Daps, MOP, Rah Digga, ScarLip, Spice, Supercat, and Swizz Beatz.
It’s one of the countless tributes to hip-hop’s legacy, which BET has sponsored for decades through shows like “Rap City” and “106 & Park.”
Chief Keef, DJ Unk, E-40, Fast Life Yungstaz & Easton (FLY), Fat Joe, Soulja Boy, The Sugarhill Gang, Tyga, Ying Yang Twins, and Yo-Yo will all perform at the 2023 BET Awards.
