Why Elizabeth Olsen Thinks Her Stunts Are “Ridiculous”
Elizabeth Olsen is a sight to behold even when hanged from a wire.
The WandaVision star recently expressed her true feelings about executing her stunts for Marvel films, recalling one sequence from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that she struggled with during filming.
“Sometimes I get a little freaked out,” Elizabeth confessed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on April 20. “There’s one in Doctor Strange where I had to be dropped from 30 feet up and land, and they wanted to drop me pretty quickly so that it looked like there was an impact, but I kept landing like Peter Pan-like fencing, and I was like, ‘Just use the double, this is so ridiculous, there’s a double for a reason.”
Which version was chosen in the end?
“They used it!” exclaimed the 34-year-old. “I’m touching down, and I look like Peter Pan.” It’s crazy; I’m fencing!”
Told Elizabeth does not belong to the Tom Cruise school of performers that perform their stunts; she prefers to leave it to the professionals.
“We had so much technology grow through these movies, and they just chose to use me for every stunt in that movie, which I didn’t understand,” she said. “I didn’t do them all, but I did most of them, which wastes everyone’s time.” A stunt duplicate is far superior.”
That is not to argue that things are always tough regarding stunts.
Elizabeth Olsen is a sight to behold even when hanged from a wire.
“I’ve recovered from my giddiness,” she said. “Sometimes I’m just like, ‘Okay, how many more of these do you want? I can do this all day,’ kind of thing.”
Her remarks come about a year after she opened up about spending nearly a decade playing Wanda Maximoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, admitting that she sometimes felt disillusioned owing to spending so much time portraying superheroes.
“I started to feel frustrated,” Elizabeth explained to the New York Times in May. “I had job security, but I was losing these pieces of myself that I felt were more a part of me.” And the further I moved away from it, the less likely I was to be considered for it.”
The Love and Death actress even stated how it was limiting her career.
“It [Marvel] took me away from having the physical ability to do certain jobs that I thought were more aligned with the things I enjoyed as an audience member,” Elizabeth explained. “And this is me being the most honest.”
Despite this, she persevered, eventually continuing Wanda’s journey on television in the renowned 2021 miniseries WandaVision. What was that experience like?
“We thought what we were doing was so weird, and we didn’t know if we had an audience for it, so there was a freedom to it,” she added. “There was no stress or dread. It was a very beneficial experience.”
