Kamala Harris’s Campaign Shatters Fundraising Records with $540 Million Haul

Vice President Kamala Harris‘ campaign has raised $540 million since its inception last month, including a surge fuelled by the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, and the number is “a record for any campaign in history,” according to a memo issued by the campaign on Sunday.

The campaign earned $82 million during the convention last week, with the finest hour being after Kamala Harris made her acceptance speech Thursday night, according to a memo from Kamala Harris campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon.

A third of the week’s donations were from first-time contributors, suggesting Kamala Harris’ ability to tap into donors that President Biden did not have when he was the presumptive Democratic contender, according to a document. According to the campaign, women made up two-thirds of all first-time contributors.

“The enthusiasm and energy at the United Centre this week was palpable,” O’Malley Dillon stated. “But that enthusiasm extended well beyond Chicago, spreading far and wide throughout the battleground states that will decide this election.”

Impact of the DNC on Kamala Harris’s Campaign Finances

The campaign stated that the fundraising totals, which cannot be independently confirmed until its next finance reports are filed, include contributions from Kamala Harris for President, the Democratic National Committee, and joint fundraising organisations.

According to the letter, volunteers signed up for approximately 200,000 shifts during convention week, making it the busiest week of organising since the campaign’s launch.

Following the convention, the campaign has launched a new ad that will broadcast in all seven battleground states. Additionally, Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, will be on a bus tour in Georgia on Wednesday and Thursday.

The most recent figure represents a big wave of financing by Democrats after Biden chose to drop his presidential reelection effort and back Kamala Harris on July 21.

In July, her campaign and the Democratic National Committee raised three times more than Trump’s campaign and the Republican National Committee combined. The funding advantage allows the freshly elected Democratic presidential nominee to air more advertising and keep a larger payroll than her Republican opponent in the final months of the battle for the White House.

O’Malley Dillon emphasised the outreach to Republicans dissatisfied with Trump, stating that the convention “supercharged our campaign’s outreach to conservative and independent voters,” with six Republican speakers appearing onstage in Chicago.

Kamala Harris and her linked groups had $377 million cash on hand at the end of July, compared to $327 million for the GOP, according to the most recent Federal Election Commission data. That disparity appears to be widening during August. None of this accounts for the well-funded super PACs backing each candidate, which have already began filling the airwaves with advertisements.
