Dolly Parton Had To Decline Tea Invite From Kate Middleton, Jokes ‘She Wasn’t Going To Promote My Rock Album’

During a recent trip to London, Dolly Parton was in the unusual position of respectfully declining an offer to tea with Princess Kate Middleton.

Parton regretted how little time she had to explore the sights and meet people in London for work in an interview with BBC Radio 2 that aired on Saturday.

“I even got invited to have tea with Kate and I felt so bad, I couldn’t even go,” Parton explained, adding that her team “had all this stuff set up” for her while she was in town promoting her next rock album, “Rockstar.”

While Parton thought the Princess’s gesture was “very sweet and nice,” she joked, “she wasn’t going to promote my rock album, so I had to say no!”

“But I’m hoping she hears it!” With a laugh, Parton said.

The country superstar has had a busy year promoting the highly anticipated album, which features collaborations with Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Elton John, Debbie Harry, and Stevie Nicks.

“Rockstar” is her first foray into rock music, and it’s a concept album inspired by her 2022 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame – an honor she famously, albeit politely, tried to decline at first, saying in a statement on her social media at the time that she didn’t feel she’d “earned that right.”

Regarding royal encounters, Parton had the honor of meeting the late Queen Elizabeth II when she sang at the Queen’s Silver Jubilee celebration in 1977.

Even though the “Jolene” singer did not meet Princess Kate this time, she hopes to get another chance.

“One of these days, I’m going to be able to get to do that,” she said on BBC Radio 2 on Saturday. “Wouldn’t that have been fantastic?”

On November 17, “Rockstar” will be launched worldwide.
