Los Angeles — Dick Van Dyke, 98, has won a historic Daytime Emmy.

The actor was awarded Friday night as a guest performer in a daytime drama series for his role as amnesiac Timothy Robicheaux on Peacock’s “Days of Our Lives,” making him the oldest Daytime Emmy recipient.

“I do not believe this. “I feel like a spy from nighttime TV,” he said. “I am 98 years old.” Can you believe it? This marks the culmination of an 80-year business career. “If I had known I’d live this long, I would have taken better care of myself.”

“General Hospital” received four awards, including its fourth straight win for best daytime drama. It marks the second time in the ABC show’s 61-year history that it has received four daytime drama awards in a row.

Robert Gossett from “General Hospital” was named best supporting actor. For the second year in a row, the first cousin of the late Oscar-winning actor Louis Gossett Jr. received recognition for his work as Marshall Ashford.

“General Hospital” also won in the directing and writing categories.

Thorsten Kaye of “The Bold and the Beautiful” won his second consecutive main actor award for his role as Ridge Forrester.

“I’ve got to be extremely honest. I don’t enjoy award shows. “I didn’t like award shows until tonight,” he admitted. “It doesn’t make sense that somebody can do this alone. It would help to have a wonderful manager who sees and listens to you. You require a cast that tolerates you. It would help if you had an entire village to agree that they will not let you drown. I’ve got all of that.”

Michelle Stafford of “The Young and the Restless” won the Best Actor award for her role as Phyllis Summers, a title she previously held in 2004.

“I feel honored to be an actress. It is the best gig. “It is a privilege,” she explained. “I’m honored to entertain people.”

Van Dyke received a standing ovation when he entered the stage with a cane, escorted by his wife, Arlene, who was holding the trophy.

“I brought this lady up because she was also on the show,” he stated. “She played the cop who arrested me.”

When producer Norman Lear won his final Primetime Emmy nomination in 2022, he was 100 years old. He died the following year.

Van Dyke earned four Primetime Emmys, including three in the 1960s, for his legendary comedy series “The Dick Van Dyke Show.”

Van Dyke defeated previous year’s winner Alley Mills of “General Hospital,” Australian actor Guy Pearce of Amazon Freevee’s “Neighbours,” Linden Ashby of “The Young and the Restless,” and Ashley Jones of “The Bold and the Beautiful.”

“The Kelly Clarkson Show” maintained its dominance in the daytime show category with a fourth straight triumph. The singer, who moved her act from Los Angeles to New York last year, was present to accept the medal.

“The move has been so great, not just for me and my family, but for our whole show,” she remarked, mentioning NBC specifically. “Thank you for thinking of mental health and not just a product.”

Courtney Hope, who plays Sally Spectra in “The Young and the Restless,” received supporting actress recognition. She began working on “The Bold and the Beautiful” in 2017 and moved to “Y&R” in 2020.

Melody Thomas Scott, who played Nikki Newman on “The Young and the Restless” for 45 years, and her producer-husband, Edward Scott, received Lifetime Achievement Awards. Scott spent years on “Y&R” before transitioning to his present role on “The Bold and the Beautiful.”

“I can’t tell you how encouraging a thing like this is,” said Thomas Scott, who had her acting debut at eight in Alfred Hitchcock’s “Marnie.”

Her spouse addressed the audience, “I promise to do my absolute best to continue to amaze you.”

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, a husband-and-wife duo, won the daytime talk series host award for their show “Live with Kelly and Mark.” On the Food Network, Ina Garten won best culinary series for “Be My Guest”.

The ceremony honoring soap operas, talk shows, and game shows was broadcast live on CBS from the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.

The 51st annual Daytime Emmys returned to their regular schedule six months after the show’s 50th edition broadcast in December, which had been pushed back due to last year’s Hollywood writers and actors strikes.
