Chris Hemsworth, a Hollywood superstar, has announced that he will be “taking time off” after promoting his new Disney+ series, Limitless.
Following the filming of an episode on death for his new docuseries, the Thor star told Vanity Fair that he realized he needed to slow things down.
Hemsworth cited his children, India, 10, and twins Sasha and Tristan, 8, whom he shares with his wife, Elsa Pataky, as the driving force behind his decision.
“Doing a death episode and facing your own mortality made me go, ‘Oh God, I’m not ready to go yet,'” he explained. “I’d like to sit and be in this space with more stillness and gratitude.
Then you start talking about kids and family, and you’re like, ‘Oh my God, they’re getting older, they’re growing up, and I keep slapping another movie on top of another movie.’ Before you know it, they’re 18 and out of the house, and I’ve missed the window.”
He went on, “It sparked an interest in me to take some time off. And, since we finished the show, I’ve been finishing the tasks I was already assigned. When I finish this tour this week, I’m going home and taking some time off to simplify. Spend time with my children and my wife.”
Hemsworth told Vanity Fair that he’s felt like he’s been “in a sprint for 10 years, and all these moments that were dream scenarios would fly by” for the better part of a decade.
He added that there have been numerous occasions when he has “I should have taken a step back and said, ‘Wow, this is incredible,” but instead, “I was inundated with other kinds of requests and asks and was pulled in different directions.” [I] wasn’t taking in what was right in front of me.”
Chris Hemsworth agreed to take a genetic test while filming Limitless.
The test revealed that his risk of developing Alzheimer’s is eight to ten times higher than the general population.
That’s because Chris Hemsworth has two copies of APOE4 (the apolipoprotein E gene), one from his mother and one from his father.
Hemsworth admitted in a confessional after learning the show’s results that “the idea that I won’t be able to remember the life I’ve experienced, or my wife, or my kids, is probably my biggest fear.”
And there are some realities to face, such as his grandfather battling Alzheimer’s.
“I haven’t seen him in a few years, but my other family members have, and he’s quite joyful and gives you a big hug some days,” Hemsworth told Vanity Fair. “But my mother claims he’s just a nice guy.
I’m not sure he remembers much anymore, and he slips in and out of Dutch, his native language, so he’ll be talking Dutch and English, then a mash-up, and possibly some new words.”
