The Los Angeles Chargers fired coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco on Friday morning following one of the organization’s worst losses in franchise history.
The Chargers made the playoffs last season but have been one of the biggest disappointments this season, going 5-9 with defeats in five of their last six games. After a 63-21 loss in Las Vegas on Thursday night, they fell to last place in the AFC West.
It was the most points allowed in team history, and the 42-point deficit was the third-worst in franchise history.
Staley, who had a 24-25 overall record, is the third NFL coach to be dismissed this season, joining the Raiders’ Josh McDaniels and Carolina’s Frank Reich.
The Chargers have made an in-season coaching change for the first time since 1998.

Telesco served as general manager from 2013. During his tenure, the squad only made three postseason appearances and finished 86-95 overall.
Several speculated that the switch should have been made at halftime when the Chargers fell behind 42-0 late in the second quarter.
“I’m Brandon Staley.” I hate to say it since no one wants to lose their job, but they should terminate him. They have the potential to make history. “They should fire him during halftime,” Amazon Prime Video analyst Richard Sherman suggested. “We’ve got an Uber X carpool outside and we’ll send you on your way because right now, I’ve never seen a team come out this uninspired.”
While Staley had previously been assured of his job security, Thursday night’s crushing defeat left him doubting his future. When asked if he would still be heading the Chargers on Friday, he answered, “I don’t know.”
Brandon Staley is the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers in the National Football League (NFL). He is known for his strategic defensive coaching and his ability to develop players.
