Chappell Roan May Have Had The Biggest Lollapalooza Set Of All Time
Chappell Roan’s incredible summer has just gotten bigger.
According to organizers, the 26-year-old rising pop artist drew an unprecedented crowd to the Lollapalooza music festival over the weekend.
“Chappell’s performance was the largest midday set we’d ever seen. “It was a magical moment added to Lolla’s DNA,” a Lollapalooza spokeswoman told CNN.
Roan, the Gen Z pop sensation who has had a spectacular ascent this summer, thanks to her 2023 single “Good Luck Babe!” soaring on the charts and her 2024 song “Feminomenon” blowing up on social media, performed on the first day of Lollapalooza in Chicago.

“It’s Chappell’s world, and we’re just living in it,” a post on X from Lollapalooza’s official account read, beside an image of a big crowd in Chicago’s Grant Park.
While the number of people attending Chappell’s set is unknown, a Lollapalooza official told CNN that the festival attracted 110,000 people per day this year.
According to two individuals close to the singer and the festival, the crowd rivalled many headliners and is thought to have been Lollapalooza’s largest set ever anywhere on the globe.
Lollapalooza began as a traveling event in 1991 and expanded globally in 2010, with festivals in Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Sweden, France, and India.
Blink 182, The Killers, SZA, Megan Thee Stallion, and Melanie Martinez were this year’s Lollapalooza headliners.
Roan was intended to play on a smaller stage at Lollapalooza, but interest grew so much in the weeks coming up to the event that she was moved to the main stage, exchanging set times with Kesha, a Lollapalooza representative told CNN.
This isn’t the first time the breakout star has overperformed – very literally.

In June, Roan drew such a large crowd at the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Tennessee that festival organizers had to relocate her set to a larger stage to accommodate the overwhelming crowd. Bonnaroo followed Roan’s performances at Coachella in Indio, Calif., and Governor’s Ball in New York, when her performance went viral for political statements she made onstage while dressed as a drag-inspired Statue of Liberty, her entire body painted green.
Roan’s next event is Outside Lands at Golden Gate Park, which takes place next weekend. The star was not slated as a headliner, but organizers in San Francisco should plan for a large turnout.
