Winona Ryder Admits that she was Sexually Harassed as a Young Actress
Winona Ryder has said that when she was younger, she was subjected to “a couple of difficult experiences” with individuals “who were just blatantly sexually harassing me.”
The United States actress, who is now starring in the sequel to Tim Burton‘s film Beetlejuice, which was released in 1988, said that “in retrospect” such events “really soured” her attitude towards the process of creating movies.
In an interview with the publication Esquire UK, the 52-year-old actress reminisced on her career, which started in the 1980s, and expressed her thoughts on the experience of meeting the disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein.
It was stated by the actress that he would not employ her because “I think I knew a little bit too much.” In addition to this, she said, “I believe that [not being hired by him] was (for) a variety of reasons.”
“The one time I was scheduled to have a meeting with (him), I went to the Miramax office, and I extended my hand to him, and he shook my hand. After that, I sat down on the sofa, and we had a talk, and then I left.
On top of that, I was yelled at by an agent after the event had concluded. “What in the name of all that is holy? It was like, “What?” to me. It would seem that I caused him to feel insulted since I extended my hand.
Winona Ryder has said that she is able to “really understand” what his claimed victims went through. Weinstein is presently waiting for a retrial in Manhattan on accusations of rape and sexual assault.

“I had a couple of difficult experiences with a couple of people who were just blatantly sexually harassing me,” she added. “It was a particularly difficult experience for me.”
“And then, when I was in my 30s, it occurred once again. Neither of them were assaults. On the other hand, it was completely improper. Things went awry. “What the alleged victims of Weinstein and others went through is something that I completely comprehend as a person.
Because I was already well-known, it didn’t happen to me as often as it could have if I had been an actor who was having a hard time making ends meet.
“However, I do recall this sensation that you have in your head: you are bargaining, and you are considering what would occur if you said anything. In the midst of this person’s highly disturbing behavior, you are working out.
She continued by saying that she had become used to ignoring the unwelcome attention that guys displayed towards her. “It was like, ‘Ha ha!’ whenever someone was disrespecting me or hitting on me while they were under the influence of alcohol,” she added.
In a sense, you do that here. The phrase “Ha ha!” Unsuitable for use? I was able to handle it. But could you touch me? It had a really intrusive impact.”
It has been reported by Esquire UK that Winona Ryder was not a victim of Weinstein. Winona Ryder has said that she does not want to identify any of the individuals involved or to go into detail about what took place.
“I believe that when I look back on it, it really turned out to be a bad experience,” she remarked. “When it stops being amazing, you have to get out of it,” all of the great performers emphasised to me over and over again.
Those words truly struck a chord with me. She reminisced on her love life and said that she was prepared to be “a spinster” until she met her boyfriend Scott Mackinlay Hahn. Winona Ryder, who has had high-profile romances with Johnny Depp and Matt Damon, admitted that she was ready to be a spinster.
“I felt thinking, I’m finally done with this. I thought to myself, “I’ll just end up being a spinster,” she added. When it comes to younger folks, I am aware that it is a difficult thing to hear that it will occur when you are least expecting it. But…”
When asked whether they are married, Hahn said, “We are not officially married, but we are getting married soon.” He went on to say that it would take place “probably later this year.”
In addition, Winona Ryder is well-known for her roles in films such as Heathers, Edward Scissorhands, and Little Women. She now portrays the role of Joyce Byers in the Netflix series Stranger Things.
