A new chapter in the Fyre Festival saga is about to begin.
On April 9, event organizer Billy McFarland confirmed that the famed music festival would return.
“Fyre Festival II is finally happening,” McFarland tweeted. “Tell me why you should be invited.”
To recap, McFarland and Ja Rule’s co-founded Fyre Festival, which was marketed as a luxurious music event in the Bahamas, became globally famous in April 2017 for all the wrong reasons when festival-goers reported fights over food, robberies, “refugee camp” conditions, and difficulty obtaining flights back to the United States.
Following the festival’s failure, McFarland was detained and accused of his alleged “connection with a scheme to defraud investors” through his company Fyre Media LLC and “a related entity responsible for organizing a music festival,” according to authorities.
He ultimately pled guilty to two counts of wire fraud and received a six-year jail term, which he served in part before being released early to a halfway home. He was also forced to pay $26 million in restitution to investors, vendors, and concertgoers.
So, how did Twitter users react to McFarland’s announcement on April 9? One person replied to his tweet, “Tell me why you shouldn’t be in jail.”
“Fyre Festival II is finally happening,” McFarland tweeted. “Tell me why you should be invited.”
“It’s in the best interests of those to whom I owe for me to be working,” McFarland responded. “I’m not repaying anyone if I sit on the couch and watch TV.” and because I completed my sentence.”
Meanwhile, another social media user expressed support for the concept.
“Greatest comeback since the QR code, and I’m here for it,” they wrote. “I think a daily / weekly video on finances would be fantastic – projected costs, ticket sales, logistics, etc.” Allow people to believe that you are doing things correctly.”
McFarland said, “Love.”
While McFarland said that Fyre Festival II was on the way, the event organizer did not specify when the festival would occur. He did, however, share some information on the venue: A tropical destination, such as 2017.
“Going to crush the island version first,” McFarland tweeted on April 9, “but @elonmusk Fyre 3 needs to be in space.”
But the real question is whether documentary breakout star Andy King will participate in the remix. The events guru, who went popular for his efforts to procure water for original festival goers, appeared to confirm his attendance by retweeting Billy and saying, “FYRE Festival 2.0.” Who’s up for it? Let’s get started.”
The original festival was rescheduled for April 28, 2017. The decision was revealed on the website, according to TIME, with the following statement: “Due to circumstances beyond our control, the physical infrastructure was not in place on time, and we are unable to fulfill that vision safely and enjoyably for our guests.”
