Anna Nicole Smith’s legacy endures.
The late model has been memorialized in Anna Nicole Smith: You Don’t Know Me, a Netflix documentary about her life. As seen in a video posted by the streaming service on April 17, the project sheds light on aspects of Anna Nicole that many were unaware of before her 2007 death, such as parenthood and her marriage to millionaire J. Howard Marshall.
“I want audiences to understand that Anna Nicole was a complex woman,” filmmaker Ursula Macfarlane told Tudum at Netflix. “She was a free-spirited exuberant woman who wanted to live life on her own terms and who wanted to be a good mother.”
However, as the filmmaker pointed out, Anna Nicole’s story “is also a cautionary tale about how the desire for the American dream can swallow you up and spit you out, blurring your self-image and making you lose sight of your authentic self.”
The documentary will include never-before-seen videos, home movies, and interviews with key persons from her close circle to help tell the story of the Playboy Playmate.
“I feel like many previous books and films about Anna Nicole twisted her narrative,” Ursula explained, “so I felt fortunate to have access to a wealth of audio and TV interviews, including personal phone calls with Anna Nicole.” “It’s as if she’s telling her own story in her own words.”
She also stated that having Anna Nicole Smith’s loved ones participate viewers to “get closer to her truth.”
Anna Nicole Smith’s legacy endures.
The doctor arrived 16 years after Anna Nicole died at 39 from a fatal mix of prescription medicines. Anna Nicole was bereaved after her 20-year-old son Daniel Wayne Smith died of an accidental drug overdose five months earlier while visiting the reality star and her newborn daughter Dannielynn Birkhead in the hospital.
Dannielynn has grown up away from the spotlight and under the care of her father, photographer Larry Birkhead, since Anna Nicole Smith’s death.
Larry celebrated Dannielynn’s 16th birthday in September with a poignant letter, applauding the adolescent for suffering “tragedy, turmoil, and a couple of baby tantrums.”
“Many people thought the odds were stacked against you, but maybe that was more geared towards me than you,” he captioned photographs of Dannielynn on Instagram over the years. “I’m so proud to be your father!”
Larry described their time together as a “wild ride,” adding, “Mom is looking down!”
