Angelina Jolie Receives Emotional Standing Ovation for Role in New Film “Maria” at Premiere

Angelina Jolie became emotional after a lengthy standing ovation for her latest film Maria.

The Oscar winner was seen wiping away tears as she watched Pablo Larrain’s biographical drama about Greek opera diva Maria Callas receive a rousing reception.

The emotional standing ovation was reminiscent of the enthusiasm that followed the opening of The Whale, which sparked the Oscar-winning campaign and a career comeback for actor Brendan Fraser in 2022.

Angelina Jolie portrays the title character in Maria, a reimagining of the singer’s final days in 1970s Paris that delves into the terrible events in the life of one of the world’s most famous sopranos.

She attended the premiere with a custom Tamara Ralph draped chiffon dress and a faux fur stole, teamed with Aquazzura heels and a crimson lipstick.

At a previous press conference, Angelina Jolie stated that she “relearnt” the term “diva” from Maria Callas, also known as “La Divina”.

“I think it’s often come with a lot of negative connotations,” she told me.

“I believe I have relearnt that term through Maria, and I have a new relationship with it.

“And I believe that other people’s perceptions of a woman might sometimes determine who she is, who she was, or what she intended.

“And I actually think she was one of the hardest working people, who didn’t hurt anybody.”

“I suppose it’s everybody in this room that makes that definition,” she joked.

Angelina Jolie added that she has “needed to be home more” with her family in recent years.

The 49-year-old Lara Croft heroine has six children with Hollywood actor Brad Pitt, from whom she filed for divorce in September 2016.

Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, the family’s first child, requested a legal name change in May.

Angelina Jolie discussed her acting career, which seemed to have taken a back seat over the last few years.

When asked how she feels, she replied, “I’ve needed to spend more time at home with my family in recent years.

“And in that time, I’ve grown to appreciate the ability to simply be an artist and play among all of you, to be in this creative environment that we are all blessed to be a part of.

“So I’m happy to be here, and I’m grateful.”

In a Vogue interview last year, Angelina Jolie, known for starring in Maleficent and Girl, Interrupted, said she started doing less film work “seven years ago, only taking jobs that didn’t require long shoots”.

Angelina Jolie and Pitt met on the set of the action comedy Mr & Mrs Smith, and they married in 2014.Their divorce has yet to be completed.

Pitt is expected to attend the film festival for the film Wolfs, in which he starred.
